Trivia

Interesting off camera relationship between "Jack" (James Bolam) and "Esther" (Susan Jameson) as they are off-screen husband and wife and yet share very little screen time together.
Amanda Redman (Pullman) and Dennis Waterman (Gerry) had a fling about 30 years ago and sometimes you still catch a very warm glance between the two of them.
The opening song "Its Alright" is sung by cast member Dennis Waterman.
Creator Roy Mitchell, a lifelong fan of West Bromwich Albion football club, gave the lead characters the surnames Halford, Lane and Standing. "Halfords Lane Standing" was once printed on tickets to football matches for West Bromwich Albion for spectators in the Halfords Lane Stand (before seated stadiums).
A ten-part series is filmed between November and June, with the production schedule rested over Christmas. A block of two episodes are filmed together and blocks are separated by a week in which the actors attend a script read-through for the next block of two episodes.
