Universal Pictures has released a second trailer for Rush.
Geez… surprising from Ron Howard. It looks a tad awful. Not to mention I already saw it when it was called Days of Thunder.
Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teams once again with, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.
Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, RUSHportrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, »

"Avengers" and "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth toplines Ron Howard’s upcoming racing drama "Rush," and a new trailer emphasizes the film's sleek automotive action, as well as the bitter rivalry at its center. Set in the 1970s, "Rush" tells the true story of one of Formula One racing's biggest rivalries, between British driver James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Austrian Niki Lauda, played by German actor Daniel Brühl ("Inglourious Basterds," "The Bourne Ultimatum"). Olivia Wilde is also seen, just fleetingly, in the trailer. Watch it here: "Rush" appears to offers plenty of heart-stopping race footage and death-defying stunts, which become inseparably from the alluring, sexy lifestyle afforded to »

"There's a lie that all drivers tell themselves: death is something that happens to other people." This is the rationale that allows Formula 1 racers to crawl into cars that travel at impossible speeds on treacherous tracks explained by driver James Hunt in the latest trailer for Ron Howard's Rush. The sport drama based on a true story centers on the famous rivalry between Hunt and Niki Lauda, a rivalry that not only spurred them on to more and more risky maneuvers, but also saved one of them after a horrific and fiery crash. The Avengers' Chris Hemsworth stars as Hunt, an English driver known as well for his reputation with the ladies as for his skill on the track. Daniel Brühl, who memorably played the loathsome Frederick Zoller in Inglourious Basterds, plays the disciplined Austrian racer Lauda. And even in the brief trailer above you can get a »

This fall Ron Howard, who is no stranger to based-on-a-true-story movies ("Apollo 13," "A Beautiful Mind," "Frost/Nixon," "Splash" -- wait, no, not "Splash"), will once again tackle a true-life tale in "Rush," a film about the life of British Formula 1 racecar driver James Hunt (played by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth). In the newest trailer, Hemsworth sets things up nicely: "There's a lie that all drivers tell themselves -- that death is something that happens to other people. That's how you find the courage to get in the car in the first place. But more powerful than fear itself is the will to win." Most of the movie is centered around Hunt's rivalry with Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Bruhl from "Inglourious Basterds"), an Australian racecar driver. And by the looks of things, it gets pretty heated, on and off the track. "Rush" has an exemplary creative team behind the scenes, »

Universal Pictures has released an intense new trailer for Ron Howard's Formula One racing film Rush. This movie looks fantastic! For me, the last truly great film that Howard made was Cinderella Man back in 2005, between then and now everything he's done has been mediocre, but it looks like Rush is going to put him back up into great movie territory again.
The movie is based on a true story that focuses on the intense rivalry of two drivers, James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). As you'll see, it's going to be incredibly exciting!
Rush is an upcoming biographical action-drama film directed by two-time Oscar winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), who teams once again with fellow two-time Oscar nominee, writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), about the 1976 Formula One season and the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Ron Howard’s Rush has long been one of our most anticipated films of the year. The film, a Formula 1 biographical drama centred on the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, will be released in theatres this September, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a strong contender come Oscar season.
Viewers of the Bahrain Grand Prix were treated to a new trailer for Howard’s upcoming sporting drama, and now the great new trailer has debuted online.

I love it when a plan comes together. One day after casting Mia Maestro as the lead for an intense little FX network pilot called The Strain, now the masters behind the vampire thriller, Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse, select two more actors, choosing Titanic‘s Jonathan Hyde and Inglourious Basterds‘ Richard Sammel.
Who is who? Well, Hyde, who acted the part of Ismay in James Cameron’s massive and enduring blockbuster, Titanic, has been cast in the series regular role of Eldritch Palmer. Palmer is described as an elderly gentleman, the THR report calls “the third-richest man in the world” and “an invalid since childhood”. Where’s the kicker? Brace yourself, because here it comes. The goal our rich friend will stop at nothing to obtain is immortality.
Yikes! Right about now I’m remembering Cronos, Del Toro’s brilliant 1993 vampire film, which is perhaps one of the »

One of the many projects Guillermo del Toro has moving forward is a TV version of The Strain, based on the trilogy of vampire novels he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. FX has ordered a pilot episode and we have news of three more additions to the cast.
As previously reported, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) has been cast in the lead role, and Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution) will also be joining him. Stoll will be playing Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City, while Durand is taking on the part of “a second-generation Ukranian-American, a once-solitary rat exterminator who eagerly joins the war against vampires who have invaded New York.”
Joining them will be Jonathan Hyde (Titanic), Richard Sammel (Inglourious Basterds), and Mia Maestro (Alias). According to THR, Jonathan Hyde will play Eldritch Palmer, “an elderly tycoon who’s »

With Django Unchained out now on DVD, Glen looks at the Tarantino projects that have yet to be made, and what he might direct next...
Quentin Tarantino's impact on cinema over the past two decades is undeniable, but still, he's something of a divisive filmmaker. There are many who love his character, enthusiasm and output, but there are those who dismiss his work as little more than pastiche.
The enthusiasm he exudes often results in him announcing dream projects that at the time seem unlikely to be made, and for a number of these, this has turned out to be the case. His last two films, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, were both teased by the director many years before they went into production, and eventually made it to the big screen. Other Tarantino projects, meanwhile, have been less fortunate.

Four talented magicians mesmerize an international audience with a series of bold and original heists, all the while pursuing a hidden agenda that has the FBI and Interpol scrambling to anticipate their next move in Now You See Me, a visually spectacular blend of astonishing illusions and exhilarating action from director Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans).
The Four Horsemen, a magic super‐group led by the charismatic J.Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), perform a pair of hightech, high‐profile magic shows, first amazing audiences by remotely robbing a Paris bank while in Las Vegas, and then exposing a white‐collar criminal and funneling his millions into the audience members’ bank accounts, baffling the authorities with their intricately planned capers.

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in August: Osage County: Duel of the Oscar winners [See previous post: "Oscar 2014 Watch: Harvey Weinstein Cannes Film Festival Coming Attractions."] More Oscar 2014 bait: August: Osage County, directed by John Wells, and starring three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, The Iron Lady) and Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich). Is it mere coincidence that Streep’s seventeenth Oscar nomination and third win was for her portrayal of British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady — distributed by The Weinstein Company two years ago? Either way, Streep’s Oscar 2014 competition should be fierce, as Julia Roberts doesn’t seem to be wearing any makeup in the family drama. Right now, mention of the name Benedict Cumberbatch brings to mind characters like Sherlock Holmes and his mystery-until-now Star Trek Into Darkness villain. But later this year the buzz around the British actor will likely shift to another role: Julian Assange, co-creator of the controversial website WikiLeaks.
Assange’s story has already made a trip to the silver screen with We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, a documentary directed by Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room). The film’s producer Marc Shmuger (former co-chairman of Universal Pictures) has revealed some thoughts on the upcoming project starring Cumberbatch as Assange, »

Whether or not you think Catherine Martin has already won this year's Costume Design Oscar - paging pink-suited Jay Gatsby! -- the upcoming battle for Oscar nominations is hardly an easy read even if there are only four spots to sashay towards in your suit & gown finery. Costume Design is my favorite Oscar race outside of all the Actressing, not frequently for what the Academy chooses but for the breadth and depth of the competitive field each year. Here's a few questions I'm already asking myself and by extension, you. So join me in the sartorial contemplation...
Steven Noble's work on "Two Faces of January" looks just divine in stills. How's the film?
This far ahead of the nominations (only 242 days to go!) it's anyone's guess and anyone's game.
Which frequently forgotten designer will finally get the red carpet welcoming committee?
The possible answers are plentiful so let's talk four of them. »
