16 hours ago | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

By Melissa Thompson and Michelle McCue

First man ever to be named “Sexiest Man Alive” twice by People Magazine (1994 and 2000), thrice nominated for acting Oscars for Moneyball, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Twelve Monkeys, producer of The Tree Of Life and The Departed, and family man to the children he shares with actress Angelina Jolie, versatile actor Brad Pitt latest endeavor is this week’s wildly anticipated World War Z.

Starring in, as well as producing Wwz, Pitt’s other starring vehicles have ranged from Greek hero Achilles in Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy to George Clooney’s forever-eating friend Rusty Ryan in Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’S 11, as well as superhero “Metro Man” in the animated Megamind and Death in Meet Joe Black.

Gee-whiz, we even have a soft spot for his dead-beat – “Don’t condescend me, man” – Floyd in True Romance.

New Featurette for Ron Howard’s Rush – ‘This Will to Win’

21 hours ago | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Ron Howard’s Rush has long been one of my most anticipated films of the year, with the director reuniting with the great Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) for the racing action/drama, promising to be one of the highlights of 2013.

Universal released a great new trailer a few weeks back, giving us another fantastic look at the adrenaline-fuelled pace of the film. And now they’ve released a new featurette, via MSN, going behind the scenes on the true-story rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

Ron Howard's Formula One Film Rush - New Featurette

14 June 2013 1:00 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Go behind the scenes of Ron Howard's great looking Formula One film Rush in this new featurette. Howard is an incredible filmmaker, and this looks like it's going to be one of the better films he's made over the years. I'm really excited about this, and I'm not even a Formula One fan. I've never watched the sport, but this story they're telling is sure to make a fantastic movie. The featurette includes new footage from the film, and the talent involved with bringing the movie to life discuss the story and characters.

It's based on a true story that focuses on the intense rivalry of two drivers, James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). As you'll see, it's going to be incredibly exciting!

Rush opens up in theaters on September 20th, 2013.

Cannes Film Review: ‘Grand Central’

9 June 2013 6:53 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A love triangle so intense it’s practically radioactive foregrounds “Grand Central,” an engrossing, superbly acted working-class melodrama set in and around a massive nuclear power plant. At times resembling a more testosterone-heavy “Silkwood,” this accomplished sophomore feature for writer-director Rebecca Zlotowski lacks some of the bracing originality of her 2010 debut, “Belle epine,” but the pic’s lean, confident direction and standout perfs confirm her as one of France’s brightest, most serious-minded young helmers. Topical setting and the presence of rising star Lea Seydoux should ensure ample interest from fests and French cinema showcases, plus some limited arthouse exposure in key offshore markets.

As in her previous feature, which set a young woman’s coming-of-age against the subculture of illegal street motorcycle racing, Zlotowski again shows an affinity for depicting insular communities situated far from the beaten path. Christoph Waltz to Star in Real-Life Thriller ‘True Crimes’

7 June 2013 8:26 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Actor Christoph Waltz is a perfect case study in how quickly one’s fortunes can change. Less than half a decade ago, he was a relative unknown outside of Germany, where he made his living mainly as a television actor. After a head-turning, Oscar-winning performance in Inglourious Basterds in 2009, Waltz has since exploded onto the Hollywood scene and become a prestige actor much in demand.

This kind of fame and respect has allowed Waltz to pick and choose his upcoming projects. One of the most interesting of these is the just-announced True Crimes – a thriller based on a bizarre, real-life murder mystery that took place in Poland.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Waltz ...

The 10 Most Weirdly Specific Movie Cliches

6 June 2013 9:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Movie cliches are unavoidable; the director only has two-odd hours to take you from start to finish, so whether a high school's social structure is built on a thin foundation of classic nerd and jock stereotypes or a wedding is abruptly interrupted by the aw-shucks nice guy who's finally ready to spill his guts, there's bound to be some shortcuts along the way.

But sometimes Hollywood takes it a bit further, hitting us with cliches that are so oddly specific (and frequently divorced from reality) that they make you wonder if they've been written by a random plot-generating robot with limited resources and a tenuous grasp on the human experience. So sit back, relax, and set your deja vu detectors to "on" as we break down ten insanely specific things that are commonplace in the movieverse.

Horror With a Heart: Three Days of Fundraising for Boston

5 June 2013 9:58 AM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

We all know, of course, what happened on April 15, 2013, in Boston, Massachusetts; as thousands of people ran a famous marathon through one of America's oldest and most historic cities, multiple explosions went off near the finish line. Many were killed or injured, and fundraisers have sprung up across the globe to help the community and the victims and their families. And one of the philanthropists lending a hand is one of horror's most beloved figures.

Adam Green, the director of Spiral and Frozen and the mastermind behind the popular slasher films in the Hatchet series, was born and raised in the Boston area in a small picturesque town called Holliston. Green, currently working on his own FearNet original sitcom, Holliston, and the upcoming Chris Columbus (of Goonies fame) film Killer Pizza, opted to plan a three-night fundraising extravaganza in his hometown area.

Green began posting details on his social media as details became available. »

Soon You Will Know: Zlotowski’s Sophomore Effort a Bleak and Appealing Entanglement

Reuniting with Lea Seydoux, the star of her 2010 film, Belle Epine, filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski returns with dark romantic drama, Grand Central, set within the closed off community of nuclear power plant workers. The maudlin romantic triangle at the center of the film may unfortunately be overlooked or outshined due to other higher profile projects of domestic discord also featuring this film’s two leads (Lea Seydoux in Blue Is the Warmest Colour; Tahar Rahim in The Past). While not as forceful as either of those two features, Zlotowski’s latest is a superlative portrait of contaminated passion, using its overtly specific metaphors to create a quietly memorable tale.

We meet Gary (Rahim) as he’s being pickpocketed on a train by the scampy Tcherno (Johan Libereau). Catching up with his perpetrator, they bond rather than argue, and »

7 Famous Actors Who Should Work With Quentin Tarantino

4 June 2013 5:35 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Quentin Tarantino is without question one of the most talented and popular directors working today. Ever since Reservoir Dogs hit the scene in 1992, his combination of zany dialogue, dark comedy, over-the-top violence, and memorable characters have made him a favorite amongst movie fans.

Tarantino has earned a reputation as a filmmaker who can resurrect a fading star’s career (John Travolta in Pulp Fiction) or introduce an unknown to a wide audience (the amazingly awesome Christoph Waltz). However, his last two films, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, featured established movie stars in no need of a career boost (Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio respectively). Tarantino has spent the latter part of his career enticing the A-listers to play in his sandbox (remember, he wanted Will Smith for Django originally), so there’s a chance he could  look to sign another star to headline his next movie. How Will Cannes Films Like 'Inside Llewyn Davis' & 'Only God Forgives' Fare During Oscar Season?

30 May 2013 11:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While it's a more diverse celebration of film of all kinds, few could argue that Cannes hasn't provided a major launching pad for awards movies over the years. From "No Country For Old Men" and "Inglourious Basterds" to "The Artist," "Midnight In Paris," "Amour" and "Beasts Of The Southern Wild," barely a year passes without something popping up at Cannes which makes a big splash with the Oscars come the following February. We've had a few blessed months off from thinking about awards, but as our Cannes coverage wraps up, we thought we'd crack out the old crystal ball and examine what, if any, of this year's Croisette crop are looking good as far as the awards season goes. It hopefully goes without saying that we're still nine months away from the Oscars, that there are a ton of contenders to come, and that any number of things could change. »

Django Unchained Blu-ray Review

28 May 2013 5:17 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When does self-indulgence trump talent? Plenty of directors have tested that boundary to their detriment: witness the litter of auteurial “visions” that almost destroyed the studio system in the late 1970s. Quentin Tarantino hasn’t gotten there yet. His voice shines too bright and his visions are too singular to let their increasing flabbiness bother us. But while his epic Django Unchained remains a terrific entry in his canon, one wonders how much farther it would have gone if the director could just get out of his own way. Hit the jump for my full review of Django Unchained on Blu-ray. The problems with Django don’t stand a chance against its positive qualities, as Tarantino takes us through another grindhouse-infused revisionist historical bloodbath. He redefines the escaped slave narrative as a high-flown revenge saga, doing for blacks in antebellum America what Inglourious Basterds did for European Jews. At its »
