Sony Pictures Television Promotes Comedy, Scripted Execs

Sony Pictures Television is bumping two more executives up the corporate ladder. Lauren Moffat will be the new Svp of comedy development at the studio, while Jordan Feiner nabs the same Svp title for scripted programming.

Moffat had previously been VP of comedy programming, having worked on NBC’s “Marry Me” and ABC’s “Happy Endings,” among others, and guided the development of Netflix’s upcoming “One Day at a Time” remake staring Rita Moreno and Todd Grinnell.  “Her fantastic taste and great relationships make her an invaluable member of our team, and she has been instrumental in expanding our business with cable and streaming networks,” said Glenn Adilman, Evp of comedy development.

Joel Silver Transgender Drama ‘New People’ Is in the Works at Freeform

Freeform is developing “New People,” a drama series from writer Don Roos, who is executive producing with Joel Silver and Rodney Ferrell. Freeform has given a script order to the project, which is produced by Lionsgate Television and Silver’s shingle Silver Pictures.

The series is based on the novel “Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family,” which tells the story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother and their family.

The book was a New York Times best seller. It was named one of the 10 best books of the year by People and Men’s Journal magazines.

Roos is the writer and director of the film “The Opposite of Sex.” His other writing credits include the movies “The Other Woman,” “Marley & Me,” “Happy Endings” and “Bounce.”

Silver’s most recent feature film, “The Nice Guys,” which he produced for Warner Bros., stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling »
