Despite its unfortunate promotional failings, and some downright mean-spirited reviews, I managed to find this film, and also more than managed to enjoy it, discovering plenty about DELGO to appreciate. The mix of what I've decided to regard as "vintage CGI" with the newer and beautifully detailed set design, prop design, original landscapes and life-forms was truly an interesting and very unlike-anything-I've-seen delicious visual feast. Its use of color as well as shadows is so rich, with sequences that often times edge on breathtaking.

The list of who's hot and who's not and who-never-was that the critics also can't seem to move beyond, was of no consideration to me; all of the voice cast are quite capable in their roles. And it was great hearing the evil Sedessa voiced by Anne Bancroft, to whom the film is dedicated.

The musical score, I thought, was fantastic and blended perfectly. The story, though a traditional theme of enemy territories, takeovers, unrequited love, heroic rescue, etc, and the usual archetypes, did combine with it a few original elements as its devices unfolded. There were five kids in the theater, wide awake, no restless shifting to be seen, laughing at the funny/silly parts, apparently enjoying it.

I hope it does better in the DVD realm. It by no means deserves to be overlooked, nor does the company that produced it. There's a lot of heart in both.
