Brothers Jackson and Grady Rhames look for options to help save their independent hip-hop record label, Sweetback Entertainment; when they try to steal their rival label's hottest rapper, the label sends a gang of thugs to assault the chief counsel for Sweetback; meanwhile, their younger sister Jade goes out with rapper VersIs.
Jade goes to a nightclub with VersIs despite her brothers' disapproval, but when shots are fired at the club, she ends up arrested, but is bailed out by Nick Tashjian, the greedy mogul who trying to shut her brothers' record label down.
Jackson attempts to chase Lady Bryce's man away because their relationship is distracting her from recording her new album, but his plan ends up backfiring; Jade develops a friendship with Nick; Monica wants to be more involved in the family business after learning about the label's financial issues.
Jackson has trouble with one of his artists, A Diva when her antics start to threaten her future with the label; Monica thinks about joining Sweetback while Olivia sees her husband's true loyalty to the label; meanwhile, Jade spends the night with Nick.
After a videotape reveals one of Sweetback's artists committing a sex crime, Jackson and his crew are at odds about whether or not they should turn it over to the authorities; Jade considers Nick's invitation to go to London with him; Grady reveals to Versls that he slept with his wife.
Baby sends a henchman to take out Max after he learns that Max told the parole board he's still dangerous; Devon takes drastic measures against Jackson which leaves the future of Sweetback Entertainment uncertain; Grady realizes he's in love with Karl; Jade breaks up with Nick and goes back to Versls.
