Set in 1933, year the original film was released. The "Ancient Proverb" cited by Carl at his premier was the opening caption of the original. Carl is told Fay Wray is doing a movie with RKO. Much of Ann's dialogue, and the final line, are quoted verbatim. Many shots are filmed the same way. One of the original gas bombs can be seen in the shot of the cage filled with chloroform. The score being played in the theatre when Kong is revealed is the score from the original, and the theatre dancers wear costumes similar to the island inhabitants' dress from the original. The Times Square billboards are identical.
