I have vague memories of this movie. I believe it was an "after school special" as I seem to recall seeing it during a weekday afternoon. I don't remember how faithful it was, but I do recall Jose Ferrer's voice and being mesmerized by the story. It spawned a deep affection for Rostand's play, which helped me discover Ferrer's Oscar winning performance in the live version. Definitely a cut above the normal H-B fare. The story, of course, tells the tale of Cyrano De Bergerac, swordsman, poet, teller of tales, and romantic. He is deeply in love with the beautiful Roxanne, but is afraid to reveal his true feelings, because of his prominent nose. He uses the handsome face of Christian to give voice to his feelings. Roxanne falls in love with his words and Christian's face. She will not learn of the truth until it is too late. One of the greatest romantic tales ever created. Let's hope it sees a DVD release in the future.
