Vijay Anand was signed for the film but later replaced by Suresh Oberoi.
The film was delayed for 5 years.
The producer bashed Rati in print stating that he was the one who brought her to Bombay from Madras. It was on his film set that she signed all her new films. Then when she began a big star, she delayed the film and refused to give dates . He went on to bash Raj Babbar stating that he signed him a very high price as compared to what he was getting from other producers. But he too played around with dates and delayed the film. Rati denied this and stated she signed Ek Dujhe Ke Liye first in 1979.
The script was written for Meena Kumari years earlier but due to her declining health it never started.
