Plot: A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right? Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the “nuts.” Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. »

In 1975, filmmaker Milos Forman adapted to film Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and the result was a stark, realistic portrayal of adjustments at a mental hospital to the newly committed Randall P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson); as patients of the hospital adjust to the newcomer's eccentricities, the staff, headed by Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), do their best not to adjust, and do as much enforcing as humanly possible to keep McMurphy in line.
McMurphy, after all, is under an extra amount of supervision, as the hospital administrators have doubts as to whether McMurphy suffers from any sort of mental illness that would allow him to stay at the hospital, rather than fulfill his obligations as mandated by the judge's sentence; he has quite a rap sheet, consisting mostly of assaults, and one of statutory rape from a girl who lied about her age. Warner Home Video's 35th Anniversary Edition of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a true collector's item offering up an impressive package of extras as well as a Blu-ray disc that's not exactly like the previously released 2008 Digibook edition. However, packaging and extras aside the real bonus here is the film. It's a film that doesn't age and simply seems to get better each time you watch it.
I can't remember the last time I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and I didn't own it until now, and now that I do it's hard to imagine not having it as part of my collection. First instinct would be to say this isn't a film that tremendously benefits from a high-definition upgrade, but when comparing screen captures from the previously released DVD edition to this Blu-ray release you can see improved detail, flesh tones seem far more »

Chicago – One of the most-beloved films of arguably the most important period in film history hits Blu-ray this week in a lavish “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” courtesy of the studio that does this kind of thing better than anyone else. With unique physical collectibles to go with great special features and a new HD transfer of the 35-year-old film, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” has lost none of its power.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” has long been one of those films that I admire and respect more than thoroughly love as much as I do some of its ’70s colleagues. It’s not my favorite film of its era, not my favorite Jack Nicholson performance, and not even my favorite Milos Forman film. And it won Best Picture in a year when that category was Stacked. I simply adore fellow nominees “Barry Lyndon, »

To celebrate the release of the new Blu-ray set, Whv offered Cinematical an exclusive clip from "Completely Cuckoo," a "comprehensive 87-minute retrospective" about the making and the legacy of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.' In the video below, »
