Adam McKay shares potential plot for Anchorman 3
Nine years went between the release of the first and second Anchorman movies, so anyone expecting the third movie also knew to expect a wait. That is, of course, if we even get a third movie at all. Director Adam McKay is leaving the door open for another movie and now seems to have a much clearer idea as to where to take it. McKay briefly spoke with CinemaBlend about the potential plot for a third Anchorman... Read More...

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Beautiful Struggle: Trump, Retirement, and Death Made ‘Phantom Thread’ One of the Hardest Films of His Career

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Beautiful Struggle: Trump, Retirement, and Death Made ‘Phantom Thread’ One of the Hardest Films of His Career
It’s safe to say “Phantom Thread” was one of the most difficult production experiences of Paul Thomas Anderson’s career. He started shooting his ‘50s period drama on the day of the presidential inauguration; during the shoot, leading man Daniel Day-Lewis decided to the retire; and on the last day, Anderson learned that his longtime friend and mentor Jonathan Demme had died.

“The world was a very, very different place than it was when we started writing this story,” Anderson said, in a conversation from his room at the Crosby Hotel in New York. Recalling the start of the production, his voice became so soft it sounded as though it could break at any moment. “It didn’t make it easy to look at your country on fire, and you’re telling the story of a self-consumed egomaniac,” he said. “But that was the situation we were in.”

Culture Dump #20: 5 Actors who Really want to win an Oscar!

The 90th Academy Awards is just a few months away – and you can tell. The industry has stepped up its game by firing out its best and brightest titles in the hopes of bagging gold – but who’ll come out on top? While Oscar predictions can often be hit and miss, some stars wear their intentions very much on their sleeve when it comes to Academy approval. People like…

Joaquin Phoenix

When actors pick roles the old saying goes: one for them, one for you. Unless you’re Joaquin Phoenix. The Gladiator star seems to have dedicated his entire career to fully immersing himself in characters most likely to land him on the Best Actor shortlist. While he may have only been nominated thrice (Gladiator in 2001, Walk The Line in 2006 and The Master in 2013), you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s happened more, having starred in look-at-me awards fodder Her,

Review: Battle Of The Sexes (2017)

There are few feelings more fulfilling than watching a movie that unexpectedly stuns and entertains you. We go into so many films assuming this or that about them, but when a movie defies all expectation and delivers something remarkable or unforeseen, you really feel that this is why the cinema is such a place of wonder. In a year that already gave us Borg vs. McEnroe, this new tennis-based film looks back at a moment that sent reverberations throughout the sport’s history and instituted a social change. Battle of the Sexes looks back at the – now iconic – huge 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs and in doing so offers a film that is thrillingly timely and yet perfectly evocative of its era.

From Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, this film is a bio-sports drama but is as taken with its subjects off court as it is on.

Judd Apatow on Returning to Stand-Up Comedy After 25 Years

Judd Apatow on Returning to Stand-Up Comedy After 25 Years
The first thing Judd Apatow does in his new stand-up special is tell the crowd that he has wanted to do this kind of show since he was a kid.

The second thing he does is joke about how famous he is.

“There’s a little bit of a freak show element to me doing it,” Apatow says of his act and the need to lead it off by addressing his Judd Apatow-ness. “If I ignored that it was weird that I was up there, the audience wouldn’t [listen to my act]. They would just want to know about me and my life.”

Apatow, who is nearing his 50th birthday, sits in a conference room at his production company’s L.A. office. Behind him are photos of the casts of “Freaks and Geeks” and “Girls,” two of his best-loved TV shows. To his left is a whiteboard bearing story notes for season three of one of the current

‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Review: Dir. Sean Anders (2017)

Daddy’s Home 2 review: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell return for another bout of dad-based comedy, this time joined by Mel Gibson and John Lithgow.

Daddy’s Home 2 review by Benjamin Read.

Will Ferrell’s presence as a comedian and leading man in Hollywood has never been in question. But, it’s easy to see that his career has certainly taken a downward spiral since the glory days of classics like Old School and Anchorman. Despite this, the former SNL star has managed to keep his head above water with a string of moderately successful hits in the past few years. In 2015, Daddy’s Home came storming out of the gates to mixed critical reviews, but huge box office success. Now, Ferrell and frequent collaborator Mark Wahlberg return for the sequel, Daddy’s Home 2. Does it match up to the playful laughs and guilty charm of the original?

This time around,

‘Lady Dynamite’ Star Maria Bamford Is the ‘Ultimate Artist’ Who Isn’t Afraid to Get Naked for Laughs That Cut Deep

‘Lady Dynamite’ Star Maria Bamford Is the ‘Ultimate Artist’ Who Isn’t Afraid to Get Naked for Laughs That Cut Deep
Maria Bamford, the star of perhaps Netflix’s most truly original comedy, went fully nude in the first episode of “Lady Dynamite,” just for funsies. “There are so many male nude scenes that I think are funny. I just — I’m older, I don’t give a shit,” she said, with a laugh, to IndieWire.

The scene features Bamford dodging attempts to pixelize her naughtiest bits, in an effort to (as one of her pet pugs explains in voice-over) celebrate “body positivity.” That’s an absurd sentence to write, out of context. But it fits perfectly with the mindset that drives “Lady Dynamite,” which features Bamford as a somewhat fictionalized version of herself, dealing with the pitfalls and pratfalls of the entertainment industry in a heightened reality where dogs can talk, the boundaries of space and time don’t matter, and, really, why shouldn’t a 40-something woman strut around naked?

Napa Valley Film Festival Rises After Fires Devastate Region

Napa Valley Film Festival Rises After Fires Devastate Region
Watching as Northern California’s wine country became engulfed by flames that scorched 220,000 acres and claimed the lives of 42 people, Napa Valley Film Festival co-founders and directors Marc and Brenda Lhormer teetered on the brink of canceling this year’s fete.

“During the first days, we only were hearing and fearing the worst,” says Marc Lhormer of unfounded rumors that partner wineries and hotels had been destroyed. “Brenda and I actually left our home and, living out of a suitcase for nine nights, kept moving things forward.”

He adds that two days after the fires erupted, the couple gathered their team. “We went around the room asking if everyone, and their families and loved ones, was Ok, and we discussed how we could help each other. Then, we had to determine if we were all mentally and physically up for putting on the show, a show everyone had worked so hard on, full time, all

Step Brothers 2: Will Ferrell on why the project’s dead

Simon Brew Nov 7, 2017

The relative failure of Anchorman 2 seemed to end any hopes of Step Brothers 2...

For many, the finest collaboration of director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell wasn’t Anchorman or Talladega Nights. It was Step Brothers. Released to good business and middling reviews, sequel talk surfaced soon after its release. But said sequel talk now seems to have been finally shut down by Ferrell, in a new interview with the New York Daily News.

Will Ferrell Finally Reveals the ‘Step Brothers’ Sequel Storyline That Never Got Made

Will Ferrell Finally Reveals the ‘Step Brothers’ Sequel Storyline That Never Got Made
Will Ferrell fans are no doubt shocked that a movie like “Daddy’s Home” is getting a sequel before such favorites as “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and “Step Brothers.” The latter was an R-rated box office success in 2008 and gained near-legendary status by becoming an endlessly re-watchable favorite on cable television networks like FX. The film, which starred Ferrell opposite John C. Reilly as a pair of grown men still living with their parents, seemed like a logical choice for a sequel, and yet the stars and director Adam McKay have never moved forward with one.

Abandoned Step Brothers 2 Plot Revealed by Will Ferrell

Abandoned Step Brothers 2 Plot Revealed by Will Ferrell
Step Brothers has easily gone on to become one of Will Ferrell's most beloved comedies. As such, there has been a lot of talk, or at least talk from others about a sequel over the years. Since the movie was financially successful, Ferrell, co-star John C. Reilly and director Adam McKay have at least kicked around some ideas. Now, the basic plot for Step Brothers 2 has been revealed and it sounds pretty fantastic.

Will Ferrell was recently speaking in defense of Anchorman 2, a comedy sequel that everyone seemed to want but few people ultimately liked. During the course of the conversation, he was asked about Step Brothers 2 and, for the first time, he dished on some actual plot details that had been kicked around. Here's what he had to say about it.

"We talked about 'Step Brothers,' and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things.

Will Ferrell discusses the plot for the Step Brothers sequel

While on the promotional trail for the sequel to one of his biggest comedy hits, Daddy’s Home, Will Ferrell spoke to the New York Daily News about other follow-ups from his comedy back-catalogue, and in particular why we’ve never had a Worldwide Prestige reunion in Step Brothers 2.

It turns out that Ferrell and his long-time collaborator, Adam McKay, had an idea, but their experience with the reception of Anchorman 2 has put them off the idea of sequels. Ferrell said:-

“We talked about Step Brothers, and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things. We had a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well… The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what

Creature Comforts: Daily Dead Visits the Home of a Demon Slayer on the Set of Stan Against Evil Season 2

  • DailyDead
There are 172 demons in the town of Willard’s Mill, and it’s up to retired sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley) to stop them. There’s only one problem: Stan would rather take a nap. There is no rest for the recently retired, though, and Stan has even more undead mayhem to deal with in the new episodes of IFC’s Stan Against Evil. The second season of the horror comedy series premieres tonight on IFC, and this past summer, Daily Dead and a group of other journalists had the great pleasure of visiting the Atlanta set to see Stan’s demon-slaying arsenal and favorite recliner in person.

Nestled on a quiet neighborhood street just outside of Atlanta, the two-story home looks like a peaceful place, with its sprawling front porch and red and white colors giving it the appearance of a tranquil farmhouse. But while this home may

Kew Media Group has nabbed international rights to “How to Get Girls,” the comedy from Nancy Glass (“Tanked”).

Kew is the film and TV production group that has been acquiring and building out during an ongoing period of M&A. It bought Content Media, which now carries the Kew moniker.

Kew Media’s president of film, Jamie Carmichael, and Evp of Sales, Jonathan Ford, will launch “How to Get Girls” at the American Film Market (Afm) in Santa Monica next week. Its Afm slate also include murder mystery “Bees Make Honey,” Jeremy Irons and [link

Christian Bale & Amy Adams Are Unrecognizable as Dick and Lynne Cheney in First Photos

The first images of Christian Bale and Amy Adams in director Adam McKay’s untitled Dick Cheney movie have arrived, and they are something. McKay, who rose to prominence directing comedies like Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, made his dramatic debut with The Big Short to massive success and an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay. The notoriously political writer/director and former SNL head writer then used that clout to move forward with a movie about Dick Cheney, the most powerful Vice President in history, and he swung for the fences with his casting. While there was no …
