Jackass star Johnny Knoxville is reaping the benefits from his decision to ditch his prankster ways for acting - after landing a $5 million deal for his next movie, Walking Tall. Knoxville will team up with former wrestling star The Rock in the film, about a man returning to his hometown who stands up to local louts and becomes sheriff. The funnyman, who will play the Rock's sidekick, is scheduled to begin shooting on June 23 in Vancouver, Canada. He also has roles in upcoming movies Around The World In 80 Days, Hating Her and Grand Theft Parsons. »

Knoxville, Stahl MTV's hot dogs in untitled spec

After the success of his big-screen feature Jackass: The Movie, Johnny Knoxville is back in business with Paramount Pictures and MTV Films. The actor will star in and produce an untitled comedy, based on his idea, about a war that develops between two hot dog vendors in downtown Los Angeles. Permanent Midnight author-screenwriter Jerry Stahl is in negotiations to write the screenplay. Knoxville is producing the project with Art and John Linson and MTV. The actor, repped by CAA, the Firm and attorney Warren Dern, recently wrapped shooting the indie feature Grand Theft Parsons. He's attached to star in Paramount Pictures/Walden Media's Around the World in 80 Days and the indie feature Hating Her. He most recently appeared onscreen in Men in Black II. Stahl is repped by UTA. »

Tierney votes for Fox's 'Mooseport'

ER series regular Maura Tierney is in advanced talks to join Ray Romano and Gene Hackman in Mooseport for 20th Century Fox and director Donald Petrie. Production is scheduled to start in late April. The Intermedia-produced project penned by Tom Shulman centers on a former U.S. president (Hackman) who retires to a small Northeastern coastal town. There, he is implored by his new neighbors to fill a mayoral seat that has become vacant. To keep things honest, a local hardware store owner (Romano) runs against him, only to see the race turn into a full-scale battle. Tierney will star as the longtime girlfriend of Romano's character. Producing the project are Shulman and Intermedia's Basil Iwanyk. Executive producers are Moritz Borman and Doug Richardson, the latter of whom came up with the story line for the project. Tierney is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content. She most recently starred on the big screen in Scotland, Pa. and Insomnia. She can next be seen in Hating Her for Idiom Films. »

Zahn adds name to 'Hating' list

Steve Zahn has been added to the cast of the independent feature Hating Her for writer-director Tom Bezucha and newly launched Idiom Films & Entertainment. The $10 million-budgeted project begins shooting next month. Zahn joins Selma Blair, Blythe Danner, Logan Marshall-Green, Bridget Moynahan, Donald Sutherland, Johnny Knoxville and Maura Tierney in the story of the Stones, a family that unites in a common cause when their favorite son (Knoxville) arrives home for the holidays with his uptight girlfriend (Moynahan). Overwhelmed by the hostile reception from the family, Moynahan's character begs her sister (Blair) to join her and lend emotional support, only to trigger more complications. Zahn will portray Ben Stone, who travels home to his family only to find himself in for a tumultuous holiday visit. Idiom president and managing partner Quay Hays is producing. Zahn, repped by Endeavor and Marsha McManus of LMRK, will next star opposite Eddie Murphy in Revolution Films' comedy Daddy Daycare and Lions Gate Films' Shattered Glass, starring Hayden Christensen. He was last seen onscreen in Columbia Pictures' comedy National Security with Martin Lawrence. »
