During ABS-CBN's wildly popular 'Xerox Era' of the 90's (named so because this was the time when they started to copy the popular concepts of their enemy channel), 'Gimik' was the idea copied from the popular GMA teen show 'TGIS', which is, in turn, patterned after 'Beverly Hills 90210'.'Gimik', just like 'TGIS' and 'BH90210' before it, is about the continuing story of a group of friends going through the trials of adolescence. And the difference between this and the other teen-oriented shows that it copied? Nothing; except for the names of the characters.During it's initial run, the story was basic copied crap, but as the program went along, the plot line became a bit more complex as the story of the characters became more intertwined with each other. 'Gimik' even went as far as beating it's original predecessor/rival program 'TGIS' in the ratings.'Gimik' came and went, like all the other forgotten ABS-CBN programs. Once again, a photocopy show triumphed over an original show, prompting ABC-CBN to continue their copying streak from the other channel. The network would continue to copy all other TV shows from GMA for the next few years and would triumph. What the executives at ABS-CBN failed to realize is that their actions would have serious repercussions in the future as the audience will finally come to their senses and reject cheap imitations. All in all, 'Gimik' became exactly that; a cheap imitation.
