Loved this film. Loved the band. Blue Ruin - where are you now? This film deserves greater recognition for its insightful portrayal of the pragmatic Australian spirit.
Set in Elwood, Melbourne Australia, Smoke 'Em if ya Got 'Em follows the last days of the world in the event of a nuclear war. Opening with unexpected surprises and closing with style, this film is at times poignant, irreverent and insightful. One thing it never is however, is shallow. When considering what to do in the event of massive atomic overkill and the destruction of everything, what would you choose to do? Indeed what choices are there really? This film delightfully and playfully depicts what may well be the only reasonable response to the Apocalypse.
A thoroughly enjoyable romp in the absurd or an exploration of our impotence in the face if death.
