The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Runaway Adulterers.
This movie is another masterpiece on cultural introspection: in the traditional Confucian teaching, marriage is arranged by parents and children have absolutely nothing to say about their own marriage despite the facts that it is their marriage and they are adults. Such dross of the tradition is still deeply rooted in the remote regions of China after the revolution and it was until the era of reform when people are free to contact the world outside their own little village did youngsters finally discovered that the outside is so different than the remote villages they lived, and therefore seeking the personal liberalization they rightfully deserve.
