The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The undercover female messenger.
The movie is based on the true story that really happened in the Shan-Dong Province, though the county name in the movie was fake. However, what is important is the release of this movie instead of the story this movie tells because in real life, the protagonist and her comrades were later persecuted to death in the Cultural Revolution, and their contributions were willfully ignored.
The release of this movie signifies the formal recognition to their contribution and is a prelude to Chinese reform to come soon after.
