Similar stories happens frequently in China because in the rapid Chinese economic expansion, the legal reform did not catch up and this created big opportunities for villains to take advantage of other people while the victims often cannot get the justice they deserves. This film is clearly a piece of social criticism and it is obviously sympathetic toward those at the bottom of the society who are struggling to make a living.
