Based on the ancient Chinese romance novel with the same name. The protagonist, Lady Du was the 10th gal in the brothel, and hence her name, Du, the 10th Lady. This remake is better than the 1940 original and the consequent cheap remakes under different titles by Hong Kong, and you have to read the original novel in order to really appreciate this movie.
