An accurate historical account that would be hated by many.

That is, many in the west. The reason is that this film showed how the communist won the support of Tibetans to help Red Army in its Long March. Although this may be hated by many China-bashers, or anti-communists, the depiction was true. Chinese Nationalist government's ethnic policy was not favored by Tibetans and the communist ideology are far more attractive to serfs who suffers under the serfdom.
