Plot Summary for
An Unfinished Life (2005) More at IMDbPro »

In order to escape from the abusive boy-friend, Gary Winston, Jean Gilkyson moves with her young daughter Griff Gilkyson without previous notice to the ranch of her father-in-law Einar Gilkyson in Wyoming. Jean and Einar are disaffected, since he blames her for the death of his beloved son in a car accident. Einar is taking care of his friend Mitch Bradley, who was attacked and seriously wounded by a bear, and he does not know that he has a grand-daughter. While Mitch heals his wounds and forgives the bear, Einar also changes his feelings regarding Jean, finally understanding that accidents happen and accepting her and loving his grand-daughter. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Trying to escape from her abusive ex-boyfriend Gary Winston against who she has a restraining order, widowed Jean Gilkyson, with her eleven year old daughter Griff Gilkyson in tow, takes temporary refuge in the only place she knows and feels she can hide in safety, namely the Wyoming ranch of her estranged father-in-law, Einar Gilkyson. Einar, who did not know of his granddaughter's existence, does not welcome them with open arms as he still blames Jean for the car accident death of his son Griffin Gilkyson twelve years earlier, but he allows them to stay for the month, enough time for Jean to earn enough money to move elsewhere. The strain between Jean and Einar increases as she quickly begins a sexual relationship with the town sheriff, Crane Curtis, who Griff does not like solely because of that relationship. Einar's ranching partner Mitch Bradley, who is recovering from a bear mauling and who is now permanently disabled and lives on a daily injection of morphine as a result, is Einar's voice of reason in trying to convince him to establish a caring relationship with the only family he has left. Mitch's perspective is in part due to the mauling, the attacking bear - now captured and on display in town - with which he has a special attachment. Written by Huggo
