Parents Guide for
Ray (2004/I) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

There is much implied sex with multiple partners, as is displayed in a montage of many women coming over to Ray's house for sex.

There is no nudity, but characters are shown after sex lying naked in bed (nothing is shown).

one of the post sex scenes shows a quick flash of a woman's breast (possibly its only on the UK version, as its rated higher than the US version, though I have not seen the US version to confirm)

Violence & Gore

Two characters get into a fistfight (no blood).

A character drowns.

Profanity

At least 1 "s" word, 1 slang term for sex ("lay the pipe"), 1 slang term for male genitals ("big thunder"), 26 damns, 19 hells, 15 asses, 3 S.O.B.s, 2 craps, 9 uses of "G-damn," 3 of "Oh God" and 1 use each of "God" and "Jesus."

Characters are frequently depicted smoking marijuana, and eventually heroin. There are a few occasions where the heroin use is actually depicted, and then other times where the paraphernalia is shown and characters are preparing for use of the drug.

Cigarettes are also smoked frequently, and alcoholic beverages are consumed casually.

Drug addiction is depicted rather accurately.

There are frequent flashbacks to the drowning of a certain character, which are rather intense.

The depiction of Ray Charles's drug addiction and his rehabilitation is very accurate and intense.
