Based on the true story during the Second World War

Although the film deserves a perfect ten for the great work, it is still a political propaganda due to the time of its release: This is the beginning of the famine in China during the early 1960's due to the disastrous political movement Great Leap Forward launched by Mao. By eulogizing the past glory, the regime was trying to divert public attention from the problem of the time.
