TV-MA for sexuality and nudity, strong bloody violence and gore, pervasive language, alcohol use throughout, and for disturbing images

Some nudity and strong sexual content, including frequent verbal references.

Nudity involves full frontal nudity of male and female characters, everything clearly seen.

Strong bloody violence. A lot of stabbing and throat slitting, brutal beatings, and shootings.

Extremely strong profanity in every episode. Excessive use of "fuck" and "shit". Lots of vulgar and sexually explicit dialogue, racial slurs, derogatory words for women including "cunt", etc. "Fuck" is used almost 3000 times over the course of three seasons.

A lot of heavy drinking throughout the series. Whisky is consumed in almost ever episode. Many characters also smoke cigars and cigerettes.

The violence in Deadwood is not excessively gratuitous in every single episode, but when it does happen it is very brutal, bloody, and often disturbing. In one episode a man brutally beats two teenagers almost to death, then shoots both in the head without remorse. In another episode a man's eye is gouged out and is seen dangling out of his eye socket. Although the show is based in the old west, there are a lot more deaths and violence with knives and beatings than with firearms. Throats being slit, people are stabbed and maimed, a man's finger is cut off. Some of the violence might be too disturbing for some viewers.
