The literal translation of the title of this movie is: One Incident.
This movie is one of the early pioneers in the post revolution era Chinese movie industry in advocating gender equality. The story itself might be a fake, but identical events happened very frequently in real life.
Chinese society was dominated by the strict Confucian teachings for more than 2 millenniums, and even after the overthrown of Qing dynasty which ended thousands years of feudalism reign in China, it was still very difficult to bring the concept of gender equality into a society with a traditional Confucian teachings that discriminated against women. It would take new laws and strong enforcement of the law to finally break the evil spell of thousands years casted by the not-so-favorite part of the traditional culture and this movies played its little but significant contribution roles in advocating the idea of gender equality.
