Interesting Perspective On The Lives of Handicapped Women
Mobones2it10 July 2004
I came upon this movie from the recommendations on the page for Rope Art, as this movie is by the same director. I was particularly interested in this movie, as I am partially handicapped and have been for twelve years. The story centers on the loneliness of physically challenged women, and the efforts to manipulate their lives by family and caretakers, particularly if they are well off. This is one of those common thread type stories where there are actually five or six stories going on at the same time, with them all coming together at some point in the story. At some times during the movie, I think some of the stories become a bit too surrealistic, but overall, you get the point. I thought the actress in the main part, Sharon Corely, was very good. She is not listed as having done any other movies. Most of the other acting was good, with a couple of exceptions. The actress who plays the nurse, Natasha Salnikova is quite beautiful and very funny. The lawyer was played by an actor named Jon Osbeck, whom I thought was excellent as well. The dialog was very good and the story moved quickly, and unlike a lot of pure independents, the movie never gets boring. In one scene where a date shows up to take out a caretaker of Jill,(one of the characters)is one of the wildest scenes I've seen in any independent movie. It also gives some idea of the cruelty some physically challenged people suffer at the hands of their caretakers.

The technical aspects of the movie are fair, but in a couple of scenes, the background noise is high and irritating. But, I really liked the music as it added to the overall melancholy feeling of the situation the women were in. If you like independent movies that are different and obscure, then I would recommend this one.
