A Double Rainbow In Los Angeles, Christmas Caroling And Kevin Smith's 'Red State' In Today's Twitter-Wood

23 December 2010 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Twitter-Wood experienced a small Christmas miracle today as an outpouring of photography and song revealed that a double rainbow can still grab more attention than Lindsay Lohan in our feed. There were enough posts to fill a special-edition Tw coffee-table book with images from those who saw it... and laments from those were out of town and missed it. But even that book wouldn't be able to capture "Twilight" actor Justin Chon's musical celebration of this natural spectacle.

Other highlights of the last 24 hours included Steve Martin's continuing jury duty adventure, as well as Kevin Smith's triumphant declaration that he's finished his sound mix for "Red State." You'll find those retweets and Christmas-related shock from Anna Kendrick after the jump.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for December 23, 2010.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, World AIDS Day And The Spider-Man Musical In Today's Twitter-Wood

1 December 2010 2:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

World AIDS Day didn't escape Russell Brand's attention today, and although he didn't sign off of Twitter to show his support, he did offer some advice to his followers.

In other tweets, David Slade dismayed over the technical problems that plagued the Spider-Man musical in New York, though he didn't sound all that broken up over what the show's fate might mean for a Hulk musical down the road. Check out his perspective after the jump, where you'll also find David Spade's reactions to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Tom Felton's recent golf excursion and a height comparison between Autumn Reeser and Magic Johnson.

Leslie Nielsen, Irvin Kershner And Christmas Trees In Today's Twitter-Wood

29 November 2010 1:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Leslie Nielsen's death prompted a full day's worth of reactions in Twitter-Wood today, both from fans respectful enough not to call him "Shirley" and those who thought he would prefer to be remembered by that name. Dane Cook dedicated a show to him, while Brian Posehn shared his favorite Nielsen anecdote, and Olivia Wilde just plain misses him.

The "Star Wars" community experienced a loss as well, though, with the passing of "Empire Strikes Back" director Irvin Kershner. John Hodgman, Brian Lynch and Kyle Newman all contributed perspectives on their accounts, and Nathan Fillion shared some Christmas tree ornaments that Kershner might have appreciated.

'Green Lantern,' 'Harry Potter' And 'Black Swan' In Today's Twitter-Wood

19 November 2010 1:41 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This week's "Green Lantern" trailer has been out in the world long enough to attract a range of reactions for the comics and mainstream crowds alike. Read what you will into James Gunn's assessment of the film, but he seems to think it would be better suited for Syfy.

As for the big theatrical release of the week, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" continues to be a hot topic in the Twitter-Wood feed. Brian Lynch and Andy Milonakis engaged in a deep exchange about the film's earnings, while Ben Stiller's been working on top of a building and Penn Jillette got up close and personal with a jacket that belonged to Harry Houdini. Those posts and more await you down below.

Conan O'Brien On TBS, More 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' And Must-See Photos In Today's Twitter-Wood

9 November 2010 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Many people were thankful for Conan O'Brien's return to late-night television Monday night via TBS, but not nearly enough viewers appreciated the event first and foremost for the great Larry King TwitPic post that it made possible. King was one of a few outstanding image-sharers earning spots on our highlight reel today. Others receiving the honor include Andy Milonakis with Snoop Dogg, and a shot that may make you wish you were drinking with Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Florence and the Machine yesterday.

Their enthusiasm was nearly matched by Michelle Rodriguez, who joined Ice-t in committing to acquiring "Call of Duty: Black Ops" (she came close enough to identifying its rightful name). Unfortunately, Chloe Moretz won't be able to play it, but if she were older it would be on her to-do list. Check out those tweets, plus Darren Bousman getting sentimental about his "Saw" experiences, down below.

Elections, Prop 19 And Justin Bieber In Today's Twitter-Wood

3 November 2010 2:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's only normal to see some complaints about election outcomes the day after, but Frankie Muniz intends to do something about his dissatisfaction. According to an update on his Twitter account from yesterday, someone tried planting some campaign signs on his lawn, but he caught them on tape in the act. Andy Milonakis, meanwhile, was much more resentful that Prop 19 failed to pass in California, and Judd Apatow thinks yesterday's results across the country will largely benefit the comedy industry.

The last 24 hours haven't been without their photo ops, either, as Sofia Vergara ran into Justin Bieber, and David Wain claims to have a shot with Jennifer Aniston, though I can't vouch for that just looking at it. Judge for yourself after the jump where you'll also see which films Kevin Smith and Ludacris have been working on.

Scorsese Involved with ‘Goodfellas’ TV Series

29 October 2010 2:57 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Martin Scorsese and Nicholas Pileggi — author of “Wiseguys,” the inspiration for the 1990 classic Goodfellas — are involved in a television series in development that would tell the “early years” of the gangsters.

Sources close to Deadline say Pileggi is likely to write at least the pilot episode, based on the formative early days of Henry Hill, the mobster played by Ray Liotta in the Scorsese-directed film.  The Oscar-winning filmmaker is involved, but his participation in the project is unclear.  Scorsese executive produced and directed the pilot episode of HBO’s gangster series “Boardwalk Empire,” which was already picked up for a second season after it debuted to huge ratings.  (You should already be watching this show!)

Pileggi told Culture magazine (via DigitalSpy), “I want to do it, Marty wants to do it, Warner Bros wants to do it. Of course, you can’t pick up from Goodfellas, since we murdered everybody, »

He supplied the book for Zorba, Mr. Wonderful and nearly a dozen musicals. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Comedy Central give greenlight to ‘Waiting’

25 October 2010 3:00 PM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

According to THR’s Live Feed, Comedy Central has ordered a pilot about the service industry based on the 2005 indie film Waiting, which starred Ryan Reynolds.

The film followed the employees at Shenaniganz chain restaurant as they gossip, make fun of customers, and avert boredom and adulthood with their antics. The 2005 original was followed by a much less successful direct to DVD sequel Still Waiting in 2009 which was a redundant rehash of the original – something I fear may occur with the proposed TV series.

Rob McKittrick – the writer/director of the original movie and writer of the ‘09 sequel,  is returning once again for the television iteration of Waiting as executive producer / director / writer. No news if, or when, the pilot will air. If you haven’t seen the original I strongly urge you do; in the meantime here’s the trailer:

Comedy Central Orders Pilot for Waiting… TV Series; NBC Picks Up Life Is Good and Tommy’S Little Girl from Jamie Foxx

25 October 2010 2:59 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Back in May, Comedy Central’s future slate revealed script development for a TV series adaptation of the 2005 indie comedy Waiting… starring Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris and Justin Long. The Office Space in a chain restaurant mentality of the show seemed perfect for a half-hour comedy series, and now Deadline reports Comedy Central has finally greenlit a pilot for the potential series. Much like the film, the proposed series will follow the young and not so young employees at Shenaniganz restaurant as they gossip, make fun of customers, taint food and avert boredom and adulthood with their antics.  Each of the employees can’t seem to keep their personal life away from work as they grapple with sex, booze, and whether they are temporary or permanent fixtures in the restaurant world. No cast has been announced yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

Take Three: Anna Faris

Craig here with Take Three.

Today: Anna Faris

Take One: Even cowgirls get the blues

I’m always up for a spot of Brokeback love. I know there's been plenty of attention around these parts in the past but let’s divert the love that-a-way. Let’s ride sidesaddle and gallop slightly away from Jake ‘n’ Heath. And Michelle 'n' Anne. And Ang. Hey, look, it’s Anna Faris as Lashawn Malone in Brokeback Mountain (2005).

I’d just seen Faris in Just Friends when barely a week later (January 2006) Brokeback was released here in the UK. The complete contrast between Faris in the two films caught me off guard. She pops up ninety-minutes in during a couples’ C&W night-out scene with Jake Gyllenhaal & Anne Hathaway.  She “talks a blue streak” without much pause for breath – and in doing so fills the gap where a homoerotic attraction is becoming increasingly »

Vma Reactions, The Toronto International Film Festival And Fashion Week In Today's Twitter-Wood

Some citizens of Twitter-Wood were able to score seats inside or at home during the MTV Video Music Awards last night. Dane Cook and Chris Pine found themselves on the wrong side of a locked door right before Eminem's performance, judging from a post on Cook's account.

Meanwhile, much of Hollywood has been focused on Toronto in recent days with the Toronto International Film Festival underway. Hurricane Earl, Trapped Chilean Miners And The U.S. Open In Today's Twitter-Wood

Michael Ian Black may not work for the U.S. government, but if he did, he knows what he would want to name the next hurricane that shows up, and he thinks that Hurricane Earl is far too tame of a title. Marlon Wayans had disasters on his mind, too, and sent some sleepless Twitter love out to Pakistan and the miners trapped in Chile.

In photo tweets, horror ruled today. Eli Roth shared a "Last Exorcism" party picture, and Michael McKean offered up a make-up shot that's not for the faint of heart. Short Horror Movie: Antivirgen 1: Chi Sei?

23 August 2010 6:00 AM, PDT | Underground Film Journal | See recent Underground Film Journal news »

The devil wants your mommy in Michael Frost‘s disturbing short horror movie Antivirgen 1: Chi Sei?, which reworks footage from two classic Italian Exorcist rip-offs from the 1970s and transforms them into exactly the kind of nightmare that you wished the originals actually were. Warning: This film is very Nsfw, unless of course you work for Fangoria or something.

In the ’70s and ’80s, Italian horror filmmakers where especially fond of taking original American horror movie concepts and beating them down into a bloody pulp. While Exorcist fever gripped all sorts of shlock directors, from blaxploitation trash like the late William Girdler‘s Abby to the crappy legitimate sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic, Italian maestros seemed to churn them out by the bucketful.

Chi Sei? was one of the more popular and notorious of the possession set, especially when it was released in the U.S. under the title Beyond the Door. »

Rod Blagojevich Reactions, 'Scott Pilgrim' Hate And Dr. Laura In Today's Twitter-Wood

Young Justin Bieber Fans, San Diego Comic-Con And Helena Mattsson In Today's Twitter-Wood

TV Review: ‘Hawthorne’ is a Drama Custom-made for the Summer TV Wasteland

22 June 2010 6:45 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Summer is the time for fluff. And that’s what “Hawthorne” is. It’s a drama that crosses the genre boundary into the realm of soap opera. Having said that, the second season premiere of “Hawthorne” is not nearly as melodramatic as TNT’s on-air promos might have you believe with their “she’s all woman” tagline.

TV Rating: 3.0/5.0

The key to enjoying this season premiere is to turn off an overly critical mind and any persistent intellectual snobbery. The acting can be stilted and the show is formulaic, but for a fluffy summer diversion, it suits its purpose.
