- Lloyd gets to Grace's house just in time to hear her father say he is taking her away on a trip to Europe. Graces asks Lloyd to meet her at the pier to say goodbye. But Lloyd catches the wrong bus to the pier and, before he knows it, has signed up with the U. S. Navy for a four year tour-of-duty. From there it is slapstick and sight gags.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
- Lloyd picks a bad day to ask Grace's father for her hand. In the first place he should have taken warning from the accident that robbed him of his precious flivver on his way to see his darling and his prospective father-in-law. But he didn't. He gets to Grace's house just in time to hear her father say that he is taking his daughter away on a trip to Europe. Grace protests but father is firm. She then tells Lloyd to meet her on the pier to say good bye, but Lloyd gets on the wrong bus and before he can rectify his error, he finds himself enlisted in the navy for four years. He makes an impression on the Admiral when he kicks him out of bed and thus starts off his career as a gob in fine style. Lloyd knows less about life on board hip than an Eskimo knows about chili con carne and gets in bad with everyone from the commanding officer to the cook. He tries to sleep in a hammock with far-reaching and disastrous results. He steals a piping hot pie but is discovered and hides it in his trousers and by the time he has finished saluting all the officers who pass, the pie has passed the stage of usefulness and burned itself into the gob's memory. The sailor boy is put to the job of repairing the target while the ship engages in big gun practice. Between dodging fourteen inch shells and sharks he is a busy young man and he jumps on a torpedo to get away from the target. The torpedo tears along with Lloyd riding it like a movie hero in a western thriller until the T.N.T, buggy hits a ship, goes through it and emerges on the other side with Lloyd still astride and headed for the wide open spaces of the deep blue sea.
