Three generations of the amulet-wearing Revilla in one major movie!
Forgettable movie legend Ramon Revilla Sr. (now a non-performing senator - he did nothing in the Senate since he was elected several years ago), the Philippine movie star who gained popularity decades ago by playing characters possessing powerful amulet, is already in his twilight years, and that he has already blessed Ramon 'Bong' Revilla Jr. (one of his close to 100 children by different women) to follow his route. Now, it's Bong turned to guide his son, Ramon 'Jolo" Revilla III.
This movie is a slapstick of Hollywood movies (let me mention - Matrix, Spider-Man, Superman, Death Becomes Her, Queen of the Damned, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. etc. etc.) -- a little bit of this, a little bit of that!
The movie, however, carries a positive value: STOP BRAGGING!
The story focused on Pao (Jolo Revilla), a high school student who has been bullied by his school mates due to his amulet which his late father left behind.
With his desire for a revenge, Pao went to search the hermit (Ramon Revilla) after he was convinced by the school janitor, Mang Enteng (the three first of the characters played by Bong Revilla in the movie).
On his way to the forest, he saved a sickly old man (again, another role played by Bong Revilla) from the bandits, and rejected the temptation of a mango-eating beautiful fairy. Upon meeting his hermit, he was told to pass the last test to fully control the power of the amulet.
After conquering the odd, Pao gained the power. He could be the mighty Paulo (again played by Bong Revilla) if the enemies were superior that his ordinary strength, or could be Pao-Pao (played by the child actor Goyong) if he needed the speed and quickness.
With three personalities in one person, they conquered the Evil Queen.
The special effect was superb compared to other Philippine films, but still below the usual big-budgeted Hollywood films. However, the fighting scene was very limited, and it kept the audience in limbo.
The story is also confined in a very small area. No major character development.
But with the earning it got during the 17-day Metro Manila Film Festival, I wonder why it doesn't have a sequel.
