Unusual chiller
kmoh-13 April 2020
Not at all a bad programme for older children, although almost totally forgotten nowadays. A science fiction serial which unfolds in a leisurely fashion over 13 episodes with a somewhat implausible premise, it still can send a shiver up the spine with its story of mind control and espionage in the outward bound centre from hell. The lads do rather subtract from the tale - Dai Bradley, from Kes, puts in a one-note sullen angsty performance, and the rest of the youths, led by Karl Howman of 'Brush Strokes' fame (coincidentally also playing a character called Jacko) are pretty tediously boisterous. When they are on screen, we ache to get the sinister adults back, as they collectively give their considerable all to a classy production.
