It has been almost ten years since the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, a feature-length adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon that grossed an impressive $140 million at the box office and received strong reviews. In some ways, it’s surprising that this long has passed without a cinematic follow-up, seeing as the show is still going strong and is now in fact gearing up for its tenth season. Regardless, at last, fans of the franchise can look forward to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, which is set for release next February.

Paramount Pictures has released the first poster for The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water 3D, the studio's follow-up to their 2004 animated hit The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. The one-sheet gives a nod to the famous Coppertone ads from the 1950s, where a dog was seen pulling the bikini bottom off of a young blonde girl. No plot details have been released at this time, but Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger BumpassMr. Lawrence and Carolyn Lawrence are reprising their voice roles from the SpongeBob SquarePants TV series. With the debut of this poster, the trailer could be just around the corner, so stay tuned for the first footage.

The live-action / animation hybrid is set for release in the UK on February 6th 2015 and opens in the States on February 13th.

Here is a man - a spongeman - whose adventures make the subsea elements of Bedknobs And Broomsticks look like The Blue Planet. What creature, on god's good Earth, can be friends with a starfish and a squirrel? And live blissfully in an underwater pineapple, presumably a joint development by Dr. No and the Man From Del Monte? But Spongebob is that creature and he's back with another CG adventure in the second movie spin-off of the massive Nickelodeon show, The Spongebob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out Of Water.
