Storyline

In the 1960s, Dr. Henry Morgentaler, a Jewish holocaust survivor, comes to see that the right to have the legal option of an abortion on demand is a fundamental human right for women. However, when he openly lobbies for that right, he is approached by desperate women who eventually force him to put his words into action. In defiance of the law, Dr. Morgentaler opens an abortion clinic which begins a long running political battle that would eventually achieve the abolishment of all abortion legislation in Canada and the validity of jury nullification. However in that struggle, Dr. Morgentaler must face hostile political enemies, prison and his own personal problems like his troubled family life aggrevated by his personal ego and his repressed painful childhood memories. Why not show a real hero?
17 August 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Canada is a country who's history is replete with many true heroes. It's too bad that they felt they had to "honor" a man who has killed so many of their children rather than to honor those heroes. Henry Morgentaler is hardly a man who to be glorified. However, since there are so many movies about Hitler and other terrible people, I suppose it was only a matter of time before this grisly man, and his equally grisly "practice" were given air time.

A treatment like this gives people a false sense of this man's historical place. This film portrays him as a hero and a pioneer. His story is antithetical to that of any real hero.

I would like to see others featured. For example, there was a Canadian policeman who refused to arrest people who were rescuing children at an abortion mill. He risked his career, his livelihood, to do what was right. A movie treatment on this type of courageous individual would seem much more appropriate.

You could also tell the story of Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a former abortionist and a founder of NAARAL (the North American Abortion Rights Action League). This is man who was once totally immersed in the abortion culture. His story of the positive changes in his life that led to him becoming pro-life would be inspirational to others.
