Gauntlet (1985) was it! Before Double Dragon you had Gauntlet. A game based loosely on Dungeons and Dragons. You have four players who can all play at the same time. You travel from dungeon to dungeon searching for treasure, fighting dragons, goblins and fire breathing monsters. It's a whole lot of fun. My only problem was that each of the four slots a different character (i.e Wizard, Elf, Warrior, Valkyrie). The best one is The Valkyrie because she has all of the other character's attributes. The Warrior is strong but slow and has little magic power, the Wizard is a little bit faster and is great in magic but he has limited fighting skills. The elf is quick and slings a mean bow but his magic is adequate and his bow isn't as powerful as the Warrior's or the Valkyrie's weapons.
The best multi-player game around, that is until Gauntlet II!!
Highly recommended!
