May have been of more value till 28 Days Later's opening blew it out of the water

A man comes ashore from the sea to find a village deserted. He steals a bike and goes into the city. He has an appointment at 2:30 am and he waits for the person to arrive. However until then he explores the abandoned streets that are all around him.

Having just seen 28 Days Later I judge this film harshly where maybe I shouldn't. This short must have been made at least 3 months before 28 Days came out. However it is so damn similar to it's opening scenes that one can't help feel it was just a cheap version of that. The story is simply a man is left alone on earth but is only concerned about the appointment he has to keep. It allows plenty of good shots of deserted areas some of which work well and others don't.

The plot doesn't really go anywhere so for most of the film it is simply the interest of seeing the deserted areas. The problem is of course that I had just seen 28 Days Later do just that but to better effect. This highlighted the weakness (lack of) in the plot and take away form any impact the footage would normally have had.

Overall this is interesting and some of the footage is interesting. But it's just bad timing that the best `deserted UK' footage had just been done to much better effect in a much bigger and much better film.
