Listerning to Camilla Baier's introduction for the Cine Mujer short film screenings taking place at the VIVA:The 29th Spanish & Latin American Manchester Film Festival in the HOME cinema, I was intrigued to learn that one of the shorts drawn up for viewing, was animated.
View on the film:
Having her hands appear on screen Duck Amuck-style, director Guadalupe Sanchez Sosa sketches out a wonderful handmade atmosphere, via the textured, rough edge collage animation having the appearance of being made from any matirial Sosa could find strips of.
Moving to a brightly coloured surreal style, and backed by terrific music from Isabel Parra, the screenplay by Sosa emphasizes the fluidity of the animation, being in sharp contrast to the way in which gender roles are formed in education and society at large.
