The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The Lowly Tailor and Miss Yang.
This movie is an advocate of personal liberalization disguised in the form of romance: According to traditional Confucian teaching, the status of the bride's and the groom's families must be equal, or else the two are not recommended to be married. For example, a wealthy family's son must marry a wealthy family's daughter, but if the financial status of the families are too great, the two cannot marry even if the two are in love. This movie is an advocate of personal liberalization in that it advocate marrying somebody out of love, not family status, whether it is social status or financial status, because you are not marrying the family status, you are marrying the person.
