Football is intrinsically cinematic. The elation when the ball hits the back of the net, the despair when it doesn’t. The personalities, the transfer story-lines and the hold it has on so many people’s hearts. Documentary makers Benjamin and Gabe Turner play heavily on this notion, as their latest feature The Class of 92, dramatises and illuminates the sport – as we delve into the group of young boys who followed their childhood dreams and became Manchester United legends. You may be concerned that unless you’re a United fan you’ll feel alienated by this picture, but instead we explore a team camaraderie and get inside the politics of football, allowing enough in here for any fan of football to appreciate and enjoy. Yes Liverpool fans, even you.
Covering the years between 1992-1999, we witness the rise to prominence for an immensely talented group of young footballers, consisting of Ryan Giggs, »

As Thanksgiving dinner looms, allow me to take you back into the Broadway vault with the legend of “Turkey Lurkey Time,” an unassuming dance number from a late ’60s musical that has reached iconic status in the musical theater world. Quite frankly, I can’t think of another song in the Broadway lexicon that co-exists with “Turkey Lurkey” in that unique space between wondrous and Wtf.
The song is from a 1968 show called Promises, Promises – a musical adaptation of the 1960 classic The Apartment – which featured music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David, and a book by Neil Simon. The »

Not the shortest marriage ever, but pretty close. After the surprising revelation that Francesca Eastwood, Clint Eastwood’s daughter, had married Jonah Hill’s manager brother last week, the 20-year old is now apparently regretting the decision and seeking an annulment. The vows supposedly took place during a weekend in Vegas, which probably explains it.
Mick Jagger is going to become a Great Grandfather! The 70-year-old Rolling Stones front man’s daughter has confirmed that her 21-year-old daughter Assisi will welcome her first child in early 2014.
After having been stuck in South Africa due to a storm there seems to be more trouble for Prince Harry’s South Pole trek. The Royal and his Walking with the Wounded teammates are apparently snowed in at the Antarctica Base Camp following an intense snow storm and high winds. The trek is scheduled to begin November 30th with the group hoping to reach »

Lady Gaga knows how to make fun of herself.
If there was one takeaway from last night’s show, it was that Lady Gaga knows what you all are saying about her. And in the constant jostling for pop-culture supremacy, one of Gaga’s advantages has been that, when she allows it, she often comes across as a down-to-earth goofball. And happily, last night viewers mostly got the silly theater kid and not the art-house provocateur, which led to an overall enjoyable 90 minutes that, while not always laugh-out-loud hilarious, was consistently amusing.

Suffer the Children: Wells’ Adaptation Enjoyable Camp, Hinges on Grandiose Performances
When something sounds too good to be true, it often is, and while John Wells certainly wasn’t the most inspired choice to helm the adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize Winning play August: Osage County, its delirious cast lineup trumps all else. The film belongs to a bygone tradition of cinema adapted from famous stage plays, such as when Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee and Paul Zindel were all names on the tips of everyone’s tongues. While Letts has the potential to be as perversely humorous as any of them, this adaptation only shines in a handful of scenes, gummed up with disingenuous mortar on the way to each to one. Several cast members are in fine form, but most of them have the potential to distract rather than homogenize, and thus, Wells seems to have let »

Unlike communism, this is not a red herring: There’s an amazing new “oral history” (with some narration) of Clue, the endearing board-game movie mystery that I refuse to stop talking about.
Buzzfeed got the scoop, and it gives us plenty of fresh interviews with director and screenwriter Jonathan Lynn, co-writer and creator John Landis (of “Thriller,” yes), and cast members Martin Mull, Michael McKean, Christopher Lloyd, Colleen Camp, and our girl Lesley Ann Warren. I personally found it upsetting that I learned anything from this article, because I’d like to believe I already know everything about this damn movie. Nonetheless, these were six important revelations
“I’ll never forget it,” says Landis. “I got a letter from [Stoppard], literally a year later, on this beautiful onion-skin paper, very elegant stationery, basically saying, ‘I give up!’ And he enclosed a check for the entire amount he was paid! »

Happy birthday, Anna Kendrick! The Oscar-nominated actress turns 28 today.
Kendrick, who was born in 1985 in Portland, Maine, nabbed her first role in 2003's "Camp," starring as Fritzi Wagner. In the years since, the funnywoman has appeared in critically acclaimed films including "Up in the Air" and "50/50," also holding the role of Jessica in the "Twilight" movies and starring as Beca in the break-out hit "Pitch Perfect." Kendrick has a slew of roles coming in the future, including a co-starring role as Cinderella in "Into the Woods" opposite Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and many other big stars.
Good morning! I get to spend my bday today singing Sondheim and working with talented (if intimidating) folks #LuckiestBitchAlive #AlsoCake

As my older kids get ready to head off to sleep-away camp, I've been indulging their interest in summer camp movies. Unfortunately for them, many camp flicks are decidedly grown up (or horror, like "Friday the 13th"), but we've managed to scour Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes for a selection of movies that older kids and teens will enjoy, and will prepare them for a much tamer (we hope), but no less memorable time at camp. Some of the best camp movies such as, "Space Camp," "The Parent Trap," "Camp Nowhere," and "Heavyweights," weren't available to stream but are definitely worth checking out.
Rated G Pick: "Camp Rock" (2011, 99 minutes)
Kids Will Love: The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato might be past their heyday, but that doesn't mean kids won't respond to the "School of Rock" meets "High School Musical" with a dash of "Cinderella" in this summer »

Camp, 30, and Astin, 25, who both starred in the 2012 a cappella comedy "Pitch Perfect" -- she as the control-freak co-leader of the Bellas and he, the hot newcomer to rival male group the Treblemakers (and love interest for Anna Kendrick's character) -- are a couple, reports Us Weekly.
The two debuted their relationship during the 3rd Annual 24 Hour Plays presented by Montblanc in Santa Monica, Calif., on June 22, and a source close to them tells the magazine it's the real deal.
"They have amazing chemistry," reveals the insider.
Camp is currently in the middle of divorce proceedings: Her husband of three years, actor Michael Mosley, filed for divorce in late April 2013, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple had split up several months before that. "Nothing romantic happened until after she separated from her husband," emphasizes the source.
She and Astin also stepped »

I realize it's only* voicework but I'm bit sad that Samantha Morton's voice has been removed from the upcoming Spike Jonze picture Her. She was to voice the operating system that Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with in lieu of, one supposes, flesh and blood options. I thought Samantha was brilliant in insert anything from her filmography here, and even though it was only* voicework, I was anxious to "see" her again.
Morton has the most terrible ratio of talent-to-role opportunities. I don't quite get what's happened to her career as she's one of the best screen actors alive. Still, since the world has a very short memory I didn't notice much mourning online about her replacement when the news broke. Or maybe that's just because Scarlett Johansson, her replacement, is early Aughts popular again. Scarlett weathered the storm of a lame but lucrative patch in her career in »

Last week, we learned that Anna Kendrick is in talks to play Cinderella in the big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods — a fitting choice, given the actress’ musical-theater (and Sondheim-specific) roots.
Pitch Perfect and the song “Cups” (which is at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 a full nine months after the movie’s debut) introduced Kendrick’s singing skills to the mainstream, but she’s been perfecting those pipes for 15 years. The actress earned a Tony nomination for her first big role, as Dinah in Broadway’s High Society, when she was just 12 years old — the third-youngest nominee ever. »

This afternoon, sensational news emerged that Chelsea’s Juan Mata could leave for Barcelona this summer after falling out with new manager Jose Mourinho.
The reports will shock many, especially given that the Spanish midfielder was the club’s Player of the Season last season and was also nominated for the Pfa Player of the Year award.
He has also been a big hit with fans since moving to West London from Valencia two years ago.
But apparently, the player has had a row with the “Special One” after being refused the increase in wages promised to him by the stipulations in the contract he signed back in 2011.
Mourinho is also said to be “unconvinced” by the midfielder, who may not factor into his plans next season.
The former Real Madrid boss is certainly not afraid to axe even the most popular and talented of his players. Just ask Mata’s compatriot Iker Casillas. »

Has the Orion Music + More Festival found a permanent home in the Motor City? After launching last year in Atlantic City, the Metallica-led rock weekend is setting up shop on Belle Isle June 8 and 9. And in keeping with the name and spirit of the event (Orion like the constellation, not Lake Orion the suburb), the two-day lineup is jam-packed with stars of the rock variety.
Fortunately for procrastinators, single-day tickets, two-day passes and VIP packages are still available. Click here for ticket info and FAQs.
Although the main event takes place over the weekend, two alums from the 2012 Orion gathering in Atlantic City will be pounding out their tunes at pre-festival concerts on Friday night. Catch Baroness at St. Andrews Hall or Chevy Metal, featuring Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, at the Majestic. A Saturday after-show will also bring electronic dance musician Dillon Francis back from the island for a special set at the Fillmore. »

Brittany Snow hit a high note last night as she arrived at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards in a dress from the Lela Rose Fall 2013 collection. The ceremony, which was hosted by the actress’ ‘Pitch Perfect’ co-star, Rebel Wilson, was held at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. Snow and Wilson were joined by some of their castmates, including Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, Esther Dean, Adam DeVine, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Ben Platt and Utkarsh Ambudkar, to sing a medley of ‘The Climb,’ ‘Lose Yourself’ and ‘Girl on Fire.’ Snow, Wilson, Camp, Knapp, Dean, Lee and Anna Kendrick also won the Best Musical Moment award for their [ Read More ]

This year’s MTV Movie Awards was an evening of highly anticipated reunions, sneak peeks, and of course, the hostess herself, Rebel Wilson. Rebel’s opening sequence with James Franco was great, but she really blew it out of the water when she was joined onstage by her Pitch Perfect co-stars for a live mashup performance of "Lose Yourself/Girl on Fire." Soon enough, when Rebel busted out the leather pants and nun chucks and the audience knew we were in for a hell of a show. Rebel’s opening monologue hit all the right notes, and aside from a few bits that landed a little flat later in the show, she proved to be an entertaining and capable host.
