Anna Kendrick Facts: 23 Things You (Probably) Don't Know About the 'Into the Woods' Star

11 hours ago | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Anna Kendrick is one of the most versatile and brightest actresses in Hollywood today.

The young star got out of the gate in a hurry, earning her first Tony Award nomination before she was even a teenager. About a decade later, Kendrick added an Oscar nomination to her resumé. Her performance in "Up in the Air" opposite George Clooney brought Academy acclaim, but it was ultimately Kendrick's starring turn in "Pitch Perfect" that pushed her into the pop culture spotlight. This holiday season, the actress stars as Cinderella in the film adaptation of "Into the Woods."

From her early Broadway acclaim to her time on the Billboard charts, here are 23 things you probably don't know about Anna Kendrick.

1. Anna Kendrick was born August 9, 1985, in Portland, Maine to Janice Cooke and William K. Kendrick.

2. Her mother is an accountant and her father is a history teacher.

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Justin & Jimmy - together again! Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon shared another sketch as kids at summer camp at Camp Winnipesaukee. This time it's 1997 and they sing "Jumper" from Third Eye Blind. They sang "Only Wanna Be With You" and "Africa" in previous camp videos. Best friends forever!

Justin wasn't even a guest on "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday. Instead, Nicki Minaj and Christoph Waltz were on the show. Nicki compared yearbook photos with Jimmy, and admitted - before she was a rapper - she used to be a bad office manager and she was a rude waitress in New York. She told the audience she probably served a »

Eight-piece boybands, middle-aged men dressed as Egyptians getting honey rubbed on their chests, Louis Walsh being... Louis Walsh. Yes, this series of X Factor might not have been the most thrilling, but even in a non-vintage year, there has been plenty to laugh at and enjoy.

This evening's final features Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini battling for the prize of a record contract and the chance to hit the charts in time for Christmas. All the betting and polls seem to suggest that it's a one-horse race with Fleur running away with it, but The X Factor has thrown up surprises in the past, so nothing can be ruled out.

Can Anna Kendrick Single-Handedly Save the Movie Musical?

9 December 2014 9:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Anna Kendrick started early. The actress of both stage and screen earned her first Tony nomination at the tender age of 12 (for her turn in High Society), which she followed up five years later with an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her very first feature film role, in the big screen Camp. Kendrick has continued to pursue her movie career in the subsequent years, throwing most of her attention at various and varied cinematic endeavors, with significantly less attention paid to her stage work in the interim (Kendrick hasn’t starred in a stage outing since 2003). Yet Kendrick has never balked at her theatrical background, and she’s begun more effectively blending her various skills — namely, acting and singing — into her own unique career, becoming bankable and dependable in a way that her other peers have not. And she might be able to save the modern musical. Earlier this year, I »

Anna Camp To Appear In ‘Pitch Perfect’ Sequel

2 June 2014 1:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Anna Camp, who featured as snooty senior singer Aubrey Posen in Pitch Perfect, is set to briefly appear in the sequel.

Although her character was seen to pass the Barden Bellas baton to Anna Kendrick’s Beca and Brittany Snow’s Chloe, Camp will make a cameo appearance in Pitch Perfect 2. This may come as a surprise to fans, especially since a large proportion of the original cast have already signed on for the second film, including Kendrick, Snow and Rebel Wilson, leaving little room for extras. As for the Treblemakers, Skylar Astin and Ben Platt have also both secured returning roles for the film. What about new names? Well, in May it was announced that True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld had also signed her name on the dotted line, perhaps leading the way for a whole new group of Bellas.

Jason Voorhees Is the Focus of New 'Friday the 13th' TV Series

24 April 2014 2:53 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Now that the Friday the 13th reboot is moving forward at Platinum Dunes, with David Bruckner in talks to direct, a new TV series is also in development through Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment.

Special effects gurus Bill Basso (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have signed on to write the script, which re-imagines the iconic Jason Voorhees throughout multiple time periods. The project will be based on the settings and characters in the original 1980 classic Friday The 13th, which was directed by Sean S. Cunningham.

The original was set at Camp Crystal Lake, which had been closed for years following the drowning of an unattended child. After a group of counselors try to re-open the camp, they get picked off one by one. Jason Voorhees emerged as the villain in Friday the 13th Part 2, and his iconic hockey mask first surfaced in Friday the 13th Part III. »

TCM: Anna Kendrick ♥s "The Women" (So do we.)

18 April 2014 5:36 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

It's Diana's last report from the TCM Film Festival which closed this weekend. One more from Anne Marie is coming up and it's a wrap. Take it away, Diana...

Ben & Anna Kendrick at The Women screening

In one of the few overlaps in our Tcmff schedule, Anne Marie and I sat down for the all-star classic The Women (1939). We've both watched the film a countless number of times - it's such a treat. The El Capitan organist played a variety of film standards (including the Star Wars theme) as we chuckled and waited for the introduction. The cherry on top? Anna Kendrick, cool girl exemplar, was the special guest, there to introduce the comedy classic alongside TCM stalwart (and object of many TCM fangirls’ affections) Ben Mankiewicz.

Walking out on stage, Kendrick sported a chic yet casual look with a black tee, black skinny jeans and black heeled boots paired »

'Saturday Night Live' recap: Anna Kendrick is a (pitch) perfect Disney princess

6 April 2014 7:48 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Disney fans, this was a Saturday Night Live for you.

Going into the episode, it seemed likely there would be at least one musical sketch moment. After all, Anna Kendrick was a Tony nominee when she was just a teenager, starred in the cult classic Camp, and is perhaps best known as the lead in the a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect, which somehow spawned a huge radio hit for the actress with her cover of “Cups.” (Don’t worry. That was – cleverly – spoofed last night as well.)

Anna Kendrick sings in 'Saturday Night Live' promos, because of course -- Video

2 April 2014 7:35 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Should we begin prepping for a musical monologue now?

The first promos for Anna Kendrick’s debut Saturday Night Live hosting stint have arrived, and Taran Killam wastes no time pointing out that Kendrick has a musical theater background (prior to Pitch Perfect, she was also in Camp). Killam tries to make Kendrick feel at home by singing her some show tunes, but music rights get in the way of everything. No matter; the duo make up their own goofy song (complete with a competitive edge), and barely manage to keep a straight face. All that, and a bit-too-late April Fool’s Day prank! »

There's always a time and place for nostalgia, but when it comes to movies from the 1980s, it goes beyond that. Throughout the decade, we hit cinematic milestone after cinematic milestone, with franchises being born that still resonate and fuel the box office today, some three decades removed. We can look at 2014 and see some good movies on the horizon.
