Early Monty Banks
boblipton13 May 2024
Perfume salesman Monty Banks show up in town just as the bootleg liquor shows up for the local "blind pig" and a quarantine is declared because of a smallpox epidemic. Rube Miller, Eva Novak, Eddie Barry and others get involved.

It's not just a chaotic short comedy, it's chaotically preserved, with Fox Film credits; L-KO was being absorbed into William Fox's operations and Henry Lehrer was being squeezed out, The extravagance of his productions meant his comedies didn't make money. New management would take over. Interestingly, the renamed operations, Fox Sunshine Comedies, would be among the most expensively produced shorts of the era. For the moment, you can see the money being spent on the screen, even if the fragmentary nature of the surviving print makes it difficult to follow what is going on.
