This movie made in the early era of the reform in China is a masterpiece of reconciliation, it honestly depicted the human tragedy caused by the political turmoil and the Chinese civil war, and the difficult but inevitable journey of reconciliation which finally resulted in happy ending.
This movie is based on the true story and in addition to the movie, it was also written to a novel and produced as a radio show, both with the same name. The novel was not widely known, even though it was the first one out, but the radio show was equally touching if not more, and thanks to the radio show, the movie was a success as well.
