In the typical political propaganda of the Cultural Revolution era (1966 -1976), soldiers and officers are not supposed to have any personal feeling, they are only allowed to have love for the (communist) Party, Communism and Chairman Mao. This film takes the advantage of the era of reform and reflected how people really are, they do have personal feelings after all.
