Storyline

An animated series based off of the four panel managa of the same name, Azumanga Daioh is a whimsical, hilarious and very cute look at the lives of an ecclectic group of high school girls and their teachers at a Tokyo high school. As the series progresses, small bits of their lives are shown, slowly painting a bigger picture as the cast shares the ups and downs of high school life, revolving around a close-knit friendship and a lot of silliness. Trivia

The title of the show is essentially meaningless. The comic strip on which the show is based was written by Azuma Kiyohiko, and "Azumanga" is an amalgalm of his name and "manga", the Japanese word for comic books. "Daioh" comes from "Dengeki Daioh" ("Great Electric Shock King"), the monthly Japanese comic anthology in which the comics originally ran. See more »

Chiyo Mihama: [Turns around and climbs back up the stairs to him, speaking in an accusing tone] You're new to this school, aren't you?
Male Student 1: Uh, well, yeah...
Chiyo Mihama: I am Chiyo Mihama. A second year student! Senior Mihama to you!
Male Student 1: Okay...

Wonderful.
30 August 2006 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

I absolutely adore Azumanga Daioh. The plot line is very simple, yet every episode is a joy to watch. The plot is basically following the everyday life of six (sometimes seven) high-school students. The one thing that stood out to me in this show, is that the characters are deep, and well developed. It feels like you know them in real life. Every character is charming and unique. It is a shame that there was only 26 episodes. Another thing I liked, is that after the last episode, I didn't find it painful to watch the series over again. I'm not that crazy about Anime, but that doesn't matter. I think that you should definitely check out this series. It's something quite memorable.
