Eighth ‘Saw’ Movie Gets a New Name

21 June 2017 8:34 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate has swapped the title of its eighth “Saw” film from “Saw: Legacy” to “Jigsaw.”

The horror franchise revolves around the fictional character John Kramer, also called the “Jigsaw Killer” or “Jigsaw,” who traps victims in situations that test their will to live. “Jigsaw” will open four days before Halloween on Oct. 27 in the U.S., followed by international launches in early 2018.

The movie was shot in November and is in post-production. Variety reported in January that Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson had been announced as the first actors. Tobin Bell has played Jigsaw in the previous films

The film — the first “Saw” title in seven years — is directed by the sibling team of Peter and Michael Spierig from a script by Pete Goldfinger, Josh Stolberg, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell. Producers are Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules, the trio that has produced all eight films.

Lionsgate has long specialized in genre fare such as the “Saw” franchise, produced by Twisted Pictures. The original “Saw” cost $1.2 million in 2004 and was Wan’s feature film directorial debut from a screenplay by Whannell. Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, Ken Leung, Tobin Bell, and Whannell starred.

The first seven “Saw” films grossed more than $870 million worldwide combined. The Spierig brothers’ credits include 2003’s “Undead” and 2009’s “Daybreakers.”

The announcement about the name change came on Wednesday through the horror series’ official Twitter account.

Jigsaw Revealed as Official Title for New Saw Movie

21 June 2017 7:32 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

John Kramer's influence is far reaching and his desire to play deadly games seemingly never ceases, so it's fitting, then, that Lionsgate has officially revealed the title of the next Saw film to be Jigsaw.

Scheduled for an October 27th, 2017 release, Jigsaw is directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers, Undead) from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (who previously worked on the screenplays for Piranha 3D and Sorority Row). The franchise's producers Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules are all returning for Jigsaw.

A sequel of sorts that's unsurprisingly rated R, Jigsaw is set in the cinematic world created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, which kicked off with the 2003 short film Saw, followed by a feature film version of the same name that made a big impact on the modern horror scene and was continued in six sequels.

The cast of Jigsaw includes Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Hannah Anderson, and Brittany Allen, with Tobin Bell potentially returning to reprise his role as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw.

We'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed. In the meantime, let us know what you hope to see in Jigsaw, and check out the teaser image shared on the official Saw Facebook page below:

Saw 8 Actor Teases Billy's Return and a Roller Coaster Trap?

25 March 2017 10:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It was revealed just a few weeks ago that Tobin Bell is returning to reprise his iconic role as John Kramer in Saw Legacy. The Jigsaw actor has now shared the first look at Billy along with teasing what could be one of the greatest Saw traps ever committed to the screen. Yes, it looks like Jigsaw will be using a rollercoaster to torment his victims in this latest Saw sequel. The actor had this to say on Twitter.

"Next time you're on a roller coaster...look up. #SawLegacy"

There is little else revealed about the photo. Billy is Jigsaw's cruel puppet that he uses to antagonize those he needs to teach a lesson to. And it appears Billy won't be sanctioned off in a basement somewhere. The image below hints at a brighter, sunnier Saw movie. Or perhaps Tobin Bell was just out, enjoying the day at Six Flags, »

Jigsaw Will Return in Saw: Legacy

2 March 2017 10:24 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Jigsaw is back, baby! Yes, it has been confirmed that Tobin Bell will reprise his role as the infamous serial killer with a game to play in this year's Halloween release Saw Legacy. But don't expect him to dominate the movie, as the actor is only expected to be back in a limited capacity.

When it first arrived over 14 years ago, Saw was considered a groundbreaking film in the horror genre. And it spawned 6 sequels, bringing the saga to an end in 2010. For seven years, it was a Halloween tradition. That tradition returns this October 27 with an all-new installment of the iconic series. But what is this next chapter about? And is it a sequel or a reboot?

Bloody Disgusting has the answer with exclusive new plot details and the confirmation that Tobin Bell will be crawling out of that proverbial grave at least one more time to torture a few well-deserving individuals. »
