Storyline

Bridget Kelly is a very pretty Irish girl, accomplished, and with a good education. She is maid to Mrs. Warner, an arrogant society widow, who is hated by all her servants. Mrs. Warner receives an invitation to a big society affair at which the Governor of the state will receive, but as she is hurriedly called away by the illness of her mother, she finds it impossible to attend. Bridget desires to shine as a lady, and feels that she can hold her own with any of them. She forges her mistress' name to a letter, stating that she is unable to be present, but that she is sending her niece to represent her. Bridget dons one of Mrs. Warner's gowns and attends the reception. Owing to her wit, beauty, and musical accomplishments, she makes a decided hit. A young millionaire falls in love with her, and begs permission to call; this is granted. Meanwhile, word is received from Mrs. Warner that all the servants are to be discharged.
