Chinese crime movies are finally beginning to face reality
zzmale16 February 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the Bitter Result.

This crime movie made in the early reform era in China has its significance in that it opened the way for other Chinese crime movies to describe the real crime, instead of the typical law enforcement vs. the spies topic in the era of Cultural Revolution.

Another importance of this crime movie is that not only it describes something much closer to real life instead of being political propaganda, it is also based on the true story that really happened, and this practice of basing the story on the real crime in real life sets a pattern for later Chinese crime movies to follow.
