You Can't Do A Soft-Shoe Dance In Wooden Shoes
boblipton13 March 2019
Alice Howell stows away on a ship bound for the US of A, only to be discovered and made to work off her passage in the galley. Passenger Hughie Mack proposes and they are wed. Back home, he tells her she can get a job at the cabaret where she works, but her frenzied tap dancing in wooden shoes drives Neal Burns into a frenzy. He tries to kill himself. Now that's entertainment!

Alice is burlesquing Mary Pickford, whose HULDA FROM HOLLAND was still fresh in movie-goers memories. She wears a Dutch dancing outfit, including silly hat, through the first third of the picture. While Miss Howell is at the top of the cast list, other performers get good bits. Jimmy Finlayson is supposed to have played five roles in this two-reeler, but I could spot him in only three. Doh!
