References

The King of Kings (1927)
This is referenced when Hughes wants another camera, and someone replies that " DeMille is making a biblical picture involving a crucifixion". In 1927, this could only be Demille's version of The King of Kings.
London After Midnight (1927)
This film is mentioned in one of the 1927 scenes, where it is declared that the film will be a huge hit. Ironically, it's one of the most searched-after lost films today.
Scarface (1932)
Posters outside screening room, and mentioned by various characters
King Kong (1933)
When Hughes is standing naked in his screening room, he shakes his fist at the screen and one of the aircraft in a dogfight explodes, bringing to mind King Kong's antics on the Empire State Building
Alice Adams (1935)
Johnny Meyer tells Katharine Hepburn he loved her in Alice Adams
Sylvia Scarlett (1935)
A scene takes place on the set of the filming, when Hughes first meets Katharine Hepburn.
Bringing Up Baby (1938)

Buck Rogers (1939)

The Women (1939)

The Philadelphia Story (1940)
When Hepburn takes Hughes home to meet her family in Connecticut, she introduces him to Uncle Willy, a minor but pivotal role in "Philadelphia Story."
Citizen Kane (1941)
Woman of the Year (1942)
The film portrays the moment with Katharine Hepburn first meets Spencer Tracy, on a movie set. The set is of the film Woman of the Year, their first film together.
Jane Eyre (1943)
Dr. Hepburn asks Kate Hepburn if she talked to Louis B. Mayer about possibly working on Jane Eyre.
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
The line "I like the desert. It's hot there in the desert, but it's clean.", is also spoken by T.E. Lawrence saying he likes the desert because "It's clean."
The Shining (1980)
When talking to a waitress at the Cocoanut Grove, Hughes gives his hotel room number as 217. This is an oblique reference to The Shining. The Overlook hotel of The Shining was once owned (and is haunted) by "Horace Derwent", a figure based on Howard Hughes. It's most haunted room is room 217, where Danny is attacked by the woman in the bath. Room 237 was used in the film of The Shining (the novel had the room as 217) to avoid hotel guests being scared of room 217.
