'Shopgirl' Danes signs with ICM

Claire Danes has signed with ICM for representation. The move comes at a busy time as Danes is prepping for the release of two films: Richard Eyre's Stage Beauty, opposite Billy Crudup, and Anand Tucker's Shopgirl, opposite Steve Martin and based on a novel and screenplay from Martin about a department store salesgirl. Beauty will be released Oct. 8 by Lions Gate Films, while the Hyde Park Entertainment-produced Shopgirl is due to be rolled out next year via Buena Vista Pictures. Danes, previously repped by UTA, most recently starred opposite Nick Stahl and Arnold Schwarzenegger in T3: Rise of the Machines. Her other notable screen credits include The Hours and Igby Goes Down. She broke out on the short-lived but critically acclaimed television series My So-Called Life. She continues to be repped by manager Michael Aglion and attorney Cliff Gilbert-Lurie. »

MGM, Hyde Park draw the 'Line'

Hyde Park Entertainment has set up the romantic comedy The Other End of the Line at MGM. Based on an original screenplay by Tracey Jackson, the film centers on a beautiful credit card phone operator who lives in India but pretends to be American to her callers. The girl travels to the United States without telling her family in order to meet a New York man that she's met over the phone. Problems arise when they meet in San Francisco, and she decides not to reveal her true identity. The film is out to directors. Hyde Park is producing, with Elizabeth Ingold and Pete Chiarelli overseeing for the studio. Ashok Amritraj is CEO and chairman of Hyde Park; Jon Jashni is president. Recent credits for the MGM-based shingle include Walking Tall and the boxoffice hit Bringing Down the House. The company's projects include Raising Helen, starring Kate Hudson, which Buena Vista is releasing today, and the upcoming Disney project Shopgirl, starring Steve Martin. »
