Winslet in “The Dressmaker”: Broad Green Pictures

Kate Winslet is following in the footsteps of Kerry Washington and Rashida Jones. Variety reports that the Oscar winner will be awarded the SAG-aftra Foundation’s Actors Inspiration Award, an honor previously bestowed on the respective stars of “Scandal” and “Angie Tribeca.” The award pays tribute to artists for their career achievements and charitable work.

In addition to her Oscar statuette, Winslet is also the owner of an Emmy, three Golden Globes, three BAFTAs, and many other awards. She reached international stardom after playing Rose Dewitt Bukater in 1997’s “Titanic,” one of the highest-grossing films of all time. “Mildred Pierce,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Holy Smoke!” “Sense and Sensibility,” and “Heavenly Creatures” are among her other credits.

The Mountain Between Us,” Winslet’s latest film, just made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The drama centers on two strangers who survive a plane crash but are left stranded on a remote snow-covered mountain.

As for her work off-screen, Winslet co-founded the Golden Hat Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to “[changing] the way people on the autism spectrum are perceived, by shining a light on their abilities and emphasizing their great potential.” She’s also worked with UK charities including Cardboard Citizens, a theater company that works with those who have been or are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.

“Kate has been a game changer and role model in our industry, setting a sterling example for all artists and leaders to use their influence to give back to the greater welfare of others,” said SAG-aftra Foundation President JoBeth Williams in a statement. “We look forward to presenting her with this award for all she has accomplished, and all she has given back.”

The trophy will be presented at SAG-aftra’s Patron of the Artists Awards celebration, set to be held November 9 in Beverly Hills.

Jim Carrey & Michel Gondry Reteam For Showtime Series ‘Kidding’

If someone were to suggest that Jim Carrey and Michel Gondry‘s finest work to date is “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” I wouldn’t necessarily argue with them. The film remains a landmark, a tender and raw look at a dissolution of a relationship, cleverly told thanks to a genius script by Charlie Kaufman. However, can Carrey and Gondry spark similar magic without the screenwriter’s talent to balance them out?

Spike Jonze Nearly Directed ‘Ace Ventura 2’ But Jim Carrey Vetoed Him

Jim Carrey and Spike Jonze seem like such a perfect fit together that it’s amazing that it’s taken this long for them to work together. Carrey’s the comic genius with a serious side that verges on the provocative at times, Jonze is the acclaimed, inventive auteur who enjoys pranks as much as he enjoys making awards-friendly movies, and clearly they share a facility for Charlie Kaufman, with Carrey having starred in “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” and Jonze directing “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation.

But so far, their first and only collaboration comes with the new documentary “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – Featuring A Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention Of Tony Clifton,” produced by Jonze and directed by “American Movie” helmer Chris Smith, which examines the making of “Man On The Moon,” and Carrey’s relationship with his subject of that film, comic genius Andy Kaufman »

Brie Larson Hopes Her Whimsical Directorial Debut ‘Unicorn Store’ Will Inspire Other Artists, Even If They Hate It

But what she’s always wanted to do is direct. For Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson, moving behind the camera wasn’t the sort of career change she envisioned only after years in the business — it was something she grew up doing. Her own opportunities just had to catch up to her first.

“I’ve just made movies my whole life,” Larson recently told IndieWire. “Every summer, I would write and direct a film that I would direct my cousins in. It mostly took place in the garage, and I would just hang up different sheets and use our storage containers as different heights for things. I had a disco ball that I put outside the garage door, and when I turned it on, it meant we were rolling.”

She added, “I guess this has been part of my way of expressing myself for a very long time.”
