Thank God for Ron Ormond. Here is an exploitation filmmaker as visionary, surreal, and possibly worse than Ed Wood, but yet his works are still overlooked (with the exception of "Mesa of the Lost Women", not one of his better works). You see, Ormond was a filmmaker in the deep, deep south who churned out exploitation drive-in films with the help of his family. However he survived a plane crash, and decided to devote his life to the lord. Sad way to end a great career? Hardly, as Ormond than decided to make films for the Lord, but he still managed to keep his exploitation style of film-making. This, possibly his most popular film aside from "Mesa", stars fundamentalist preacher Estus W. Pirkle (ya, that is his name) as himself, as he gives a sermon to a bored congregation about the dangers of communism. He says that if we forsake Jesus for the evils of the nation (cartoons, drive-ins, mini-skirts, changing times), than God will lift his protective veil on our nation to make way for those dastardly communists. These communists will rape woman, kidnap and decapitate children, and poke sticks through the children's ears so they can't hear the good word of our "Lawd Jazus Chriast". 'Cause as we know, that's what communists do. I'm pretty sure this film is in the public domain (in fact, I doubt if it was ever copyright to begin with), so why doesn't a company like Something Weird Video re-release this along with a bunch of other Ormond titles to video and DVD? For now, we have to stick to the low-grade bootlegs (which there are plenty of for this film). It's definitely worth the bootleg price to own this film. (7/10)
