This movie is one of the earliest horror in the post-revolutionary China.
Before the late 1980's, horror movies were banned in China by the governmental censorship because the government considered such movie are not healthy for the public.
During the era of reform, the ban was gradually lifted, first by the incorporation of horror factor in crime movies, and then later, in the mystery movies. But a purely commercial horror movie did not appear until the late-1980's and this one faced the fate of being banned, but after much debate it survived.
