The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Great Counter-Narcotic Operations in the Region of Ridge Qin & Huai River.
The movie itself is the dramatization of the true counter drug operation in real life, but there is social criticism reflected it:
New social problems common of that of west boomed in China in its rapid economic boom, but social services did not expand accordingly and this provide opportunities for those with problems but lack the access to help to turn to drugs for salvation.
Unlike other crime movies of the economic booming era in China, this movie openly shows the social criticism by incorporating it directly into the movie, instead of hidden left for audience to figure out.
